What is the reason for sudden severe menstrual cramps?

First, "secondary dysmenorrhea" is another concept relative to "primary dysmenorrhea". "Primary dysmenorrhea" refers to dysmenorrhea that occurs during the first menstrual period, while secondary dysmenorrhea refers to dysmenorrhea that gradually develops several years after the onset of menstruation. Its causes and treatment options are different from those of primary dysmenorrhea. It often manifests itself in various forms of pain: lower abdominal pain, lower abdominal distension, anal pain, pain during sexual intercourse, etc.

Second: Uterine fibroids: Dysmenorrhea is not the main symptom of uterine fibroids, but submucosal fibroids can cause spasmodic pain during menstruation due to stimulation of uterine contraction. Patients often have menorrhagia, prolonged menstruation or irregular vaginal bleeding. Pelvic examination may reveal varying degrees of enlargement of the uterus, with a smooth surface or nodular protrusions.

Third: Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease: Lower abdominal pain and infertility are the main symptoms of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. During the menstrual period, pelvic congestion or acute inflammation induced by menstruation may cause aggravated abdominal pain. Most patients have a history of infertility and acute pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic examination shows that the uterus is often posterior, with poor mobility or even completely fixed.

What to do if you have sudden dysmenorrhea

When you suddenly have dysmenorrhea, you can relieve it by taking painkillers. For example, aspirin, Yuanhu pain-relieving pills, etc. have good effects. When you have dysmenorrhea, take one tablet with milk, which will not hurt your stomach and can also prevent menstrual pain. Taking painkillers is for patients with severe dysmenorrhea. Generally, if the pain is mild, it can be relieved by hot compress. When dysmenorrhea occurs suddenly, you can apply a hot water bottle to the abdomen. If you don’t have a hot water bottle, filling a cup with hot water and applying it to the abdomen can also relieve the pain.

Sudden dysmenorrhea can also be relieved through some simple techniques, such as acupressure. There are some acupressure points on our feet, which are connected to the veins in the pelvic area. There are acupressure points in the uterus and ovarian areas in the depressions on both sides of the ankles. When dysmenorrhea occurs suddenly, start by gently pinching with your thumb and other fingertips, then move up to the Achilles tendon to the calf muscle, alternating between your feet for a few minutes, which can effectively relieve dysmenorrhea. Practicing yoga and doing some simple yoga exercises can also help relieve the pain. Kneel down on your knees, sit on your heels, put your forehead on the ground, and stretch your arms along your sides. Hold this position for several minutes.
