Can you touch a pregnant woman's belly?

After becoming pregnant, mothers watch their bellies gradually bulge, which are round and cute, and they always want to touch them. However, they are worried that their touch will hurt the baby in their belly, so they always wonder whether they should touch the baby with their hands. Stroking back and forth can make the baby feel very relaxed and can also make the child feel loved, so touching the belly regularly is good for the baby and can also resonate and communicate with the child.

Tools/Raw Materials

The first sense a fetus has is touch. As early as the third month of pregnancy, which is about 12 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus can feel the pressure from the outside world. Pregnant mothers often put their hands on their belly and gently stroke it, and the baby can feel it. Of course, the little one in my belly also likes daddy’s cheek to rest against me. Adults cannot feel it at first, but as the pregnancy progresses, the fetus will bump into the hands of mom and dad when it moves.

Back and forth stroking method

Specific method: When the pregnant mother's abdomen is completely relaxed, she can use her hands to stroke back and forth from top to bottom and from left to right. In your mind, you can imagine that your hands are really caressing the cute baby, feeling a sense of joy and happiness, and thinking affectionately: "Little baby, mommy really loves you", "Little baby feels so comfortable", etc.

Note: The movements should be gentle and the time should not be too long, 2 to 5 minutes each time.

Light touch pressing method

Implementation month: After 4 months of pregnancy, you can perform gentle touching, pressing and patting exercises in addition to touching.

Specific method: The pregnant mother lies flat on her back and relaxes her abdomen. First, she strokes her abdomen from top to bottom and from left to right with her hands, and gently presses and lifts with her fingers. Then, she gently presses and pats to give the fetus tactile stimulation. Generally, after a few weeks of persistence, the fetus will respond, such as slight body movement, turning of hands and feet, etc.

When your baby moves, gently press where he's moving. He'll feel the response from the outside world and may continue to interact with you.

Note: Start with 5 minutes each time, and then increase to 5 to 10 minutes each time after the reaction is formed. When pressing and patting the fetus, the movements must be gentle. The pregnant mother should also pay attention to the fetus's reaction. If she feels the fetus struggling or kicking, it means he does not like it, and she should stop immediately.

Imagine touching

Posture: The pregnant mother lies on her back on the bed, with her head not raised too high, her whole body relaxed, her breathing even, her mind calm, her face smiling, and her hands lightly placed on her abdomen. She can also raise her upper body and adopt a semi-recumbent position. Whatever position you adopt, make sure you feel comfortable.

Method: The pregnant mother uses her hands to gently and slowly caress the fetus from top to bottom and from left to right. In her mind, you can imagine that your hands are really caressing the cute baby, feeling a sense of joy and happiness, and speaking affectionate words of love to the baby. 2 to 5 minutes each time, twice a day. The effect will be better if it is accompanied by relaxing and cheerful music. It should be noted that the fetus should be massaged at a regular time. The ideal time is in the evening when the fetal movement is frequent, or around 10 o'clock at night. But not too late, lest the fetus becomes excited, dancing and making the mother unable to fall asleep for a long time. Each session should not be too long, 5-10 minutes is appropriate.

Note: Before caressing the baby, the pregnant mother should empty her bladder.
