Hyperlactosis

Hyperlactosis

Under normal circumstances, human serum prolactin is within a normal range. If hyperprolactinemia is too high or too low, it can cause great harm to human health and requires active treatment. However, during treatment, it is necessary to find out the cause and treat it symptomatically. Hyperprolactinemia has a particularly great impact on the human body, causing menstrual abnormalities in women, and in severe cases it may affect fertility.

What causes hyperprolactemia?

1. Another phenomenon of increased prolactin is the massive organization of secretory lactocytes in the body. These cells are in an uncontrolled state for a long time, secreting a large amount of hormones. At the same time, the pituitary stalk is also oppressed accordingly, resulting in loss of control of the body's secretion. As a result, the pituitary gland secretes increased prolactin, causing hyperprolactinemia.

2. Non-functional hypothalamic tumors, inflammation, pituitary stalk lesions, pituitary damage, or compression of the pituitary by tumors or growths will also lead to increased secretion of pituitary prolactin and cause hyperprolactinemia.

3. The primary thyroid function declines in the body, idiopathic amenorrhea, galactorrhea and other comprehensive symptoms occur, which lead to primary thyroid dysfunction and renal insufficiency, causing diseases, and also cause an increase in prolactin.

4. Corresponding surgeries will also cause an increase in prolactin levels in the blood. For example, artificial abortion, induced abortion of stillbirth, hysterectomy, tubal ligation, etc. can all reflexively cause hyperprolactinemia.

5. Long-term abdominal pain caused by some medicines will affect the absorption and metabolism functions in the body, resulting in a continuous increase in the secretion of prolactin and other adverse conditions such as irregular menstruation or even amenorrhea.

What harm does hyperprolactinemia have on the body?

1. In female patients, elevated blood PRL will inhibit pituitary function, thereby reducing follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, leading to follicular hypoplasia and anovulation. The main impact of hyperprolactinemia on women of childbearing age is infertility, and long-term anovulation will cause a single estrogen to act on the endometrium, thereby increasing the risk of endometrial cancer, and can also lead to amenorrhea, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc. It should be noted that if blood PRL remains at a high level for a long time, the ovarian function will be suppressed for a long time, leading to premature ovarian failure.

2. In male patients, high levels of PRL will affect the synthesis and secretion of sex hormones and the maturity of sperm, and will also weaken the function of the gonads, thereby affecting the activity of sperm. At the same time, it will promote the development of male breasts and cause lactation, causing troubles in life.

The causes of hyperprolactinemia include physiological, pathological and drug-related. Physiological factors include excessive or insufficient exercise, consumption of hormonal foods, hypoglycemia, and mental factors. Hypothalamic lesions, pituitary prolactinoma and other pathological factors are common causes. In addition, long-term use of estrogen drugs, antihypertensive drugs, etc. can also cause increased prolactin.
