What to do if your period is delayed

What to do if your period is delayed

Every woman has her own menstrual cycle. The cycle of a healthy woman is generally very stable. If the menstrual period has been stable for a long time and the menstrual period is suddenly delayed, you need to consider the possibility of pregnancy. Of course, certain gynecological diseases can also cause delayed menstruation. People who often stay up late will have endocrine disorders and menstrual disorders. So what should I do if my period is delayed?

For women with regular menstruation, an occasional delay in menstruation is usually caused by certain factors. The main reason is mental factors, such as too much work pressure, poor sleep, staying up late, changes in study or work cycles, business trips, jet lag, etc. These mental factors may lead to delayed menstruation. Another common change for women is weight change, such as suddenly losing ten pounds or suddenly gaining ten pounds, which may lead to delayed menstruation. So don't be too anxious about delayed menstruation, and first analyze whether there are these reasons.

In addition, pregnancy should be ruled out. Menstruation may not come during pregnancy, or it may come but be delayed, and the amount and time of bleeding will be different from usual. In fact, this is not a real period, but vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy, which is a symptom of threatened abortion. Therefore, these factors should be taken into consideration when menstruation is delayed. If you suspect you are pregnant, you should do a urine test.

If menstruation is delayed, you need to first observe the number of days of delay. It is normal for menstruation to be delayed by 7 days or less. You can continue to observe whether menstruation will come. If the delay exceeds 7 days, married or sexually active women need to further rule out pregnancy. You can buy an early pregnancy test to check whether you are pregnant, or you can go to the hospital to have a blood test for HCG for further confirmation. There is a certain degree of error in test paper tests. Blood tests are currently the most accurate and earliest way to confirm whether a woman is pregnant.

If you are pregnant, you need to choose whether to continue the pregnancy or terminate it based on your needs. If you are unmarried and have no sexual history or the possibility of pregnancy has been ruled out, the most likely cause of delayed menstruation is menstrual disorder. You can go to the hospital for a color Doppler ultrasound to check the thickness of the endometrium and see if your period is about to come. Depending on the condition of the endometrium, choose whether medication is needed. It is best to have a blood test on an empty stomach on the 2nd to 4th day of the next menstrual period to check six sex hormones to further confirm the cause of the delayed menstruation.
