Polycystic ovary Chinese medicine

Polycystic ovary is a very common disease in our lives. For female friends, if they suffer from polycystic ovary, they must actively receive treatment, because only in this way can women avoid infertility. In fact, polycystic ovary does not necessarily require surgical treatment. It can also be treated by traditional Chinese medicine to regulate the female endocrine and body. So how does traditional Chinese medicine treat polycystic ovary?

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a group of diseases in modern medicine, and there is no such disease name in traditional Chinese medicine. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this disease is associated with infertility or menstrual disorders, which can be caused by kidney deficiency, blood stasis, or phlegm and dampness. Therefore, Traditional Chinese Medicine's treatment of PCOS requires syndrome differentiation and treatment, and different drug treatments are used according to different syndrome differentiations. In polycystic ovary syndrome, phlegm-dampness syndrome is the most common syndrome in TCM diagnosis, because most patients with this condition are obese, and they may also have gastrointestinal discomfort, enlarged tongue, greasy tongue coating, etc. In this case, Cangfu Daotan Decoction can be used with modifications, and the patient should be advised to control his weight. For women who want to have children, acupuncture is used to assist in ovulation treatment.

What are the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome

1. Menstrual disorders

Menstruation is scanty or amenorrhea may occur, and in a few cases, functional uterine bleeding may occur. It often occurs during adolescence, as a continuation of irregular menstruation after menarche, sometimes accompanied by dysmenorrhea.

2. Infertility

Infertility is often caused by menstrual disorders and anovulation, and is often the main reason for seeking medical treatment. Sometimes there may be occasional ovulation or miscarriage, with an incidence rate of up to 74%. Recommended reading: Is the pregnancy rate high in polycystic ovary syndrome?

3. Hirsutism and acne

It is relatively common, with an incidence rate of up to 69%. Due to the increase in androgen levels, the vellus hair on the upper lip, lower jaw, chest, back, middle of the lower abdomen, both sides of the upper thighs and around the anus may become thicker and more numerous, but the degree of hirsutism is not proportional to the androgen level (affected by multiple factors such as the number of receptors, estrogen, SHBG and the sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens). It may also be accompanied by acne, excessive facial sebum secretion, deep and rough voice, enlarged clitoris, Adam's apple and other signs of masculinization. Oily skin and acne are also common, which is related to the high androgen in the body stimulating sebaceous gland secretion.

4. Obesity

Overweight exceeds 20%, and those with a body mass index ≥25 account for 30% to 60%. Obesity is mostly concentrated in the upper body, with a waist/hip ratio > 0.85. It usually starts during adolescence and gradually worsens with age.

5. Bilateral ovarian enlargement

In a small number of patients, gynecological examination may reveal that the bilateral ovaries are 1 to 3 times larger than normal and feel firm. In most patients, enlarged ovaries need to be discovered through auxiliary examinations such as B-ultrasound and are not easily detected by clinical examinations.

6. Estrogen Effects

All patients showed good estrogen response. During examination, a large amount of cervical mucus may be seen. Continuous and large amounts of estrogen can cause rapid endometrial hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, and even cancer.
