Polycystic ovary medication

Polycystic ovary medication

Many women will choose conservative treatment after suffering from polycystic ovary, because for patients with mild diseases, the use of Baoshu's treatment method will be better for women's health, and surgical treatment will always have certain hazards, because there will be many risks during the operation, and these risks may cause secondary damage to women. So what medicine can be used for polycystic ovary?

The main purpose of PCOS treatment is to establish a normal menstrual cycle with ovulation, restore fertility, and eliminate hirsutism. Once a normal menstrual cycle is established, conception becomes possible, the ovaries no longer produce excess androgens, and the hirsutism disappears. Treatments to restore normal menstrual cycles are as follows.

(1) Clomiphene, also known as clomiphene citrate and clomiphene citrate. It is now generally agreed that clomiphene is the treatment of choice for polycystic ovary syndrome. Clomiphene can induce the hypothalamus to release gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which in turn promotes the pituitary gland to release follicle-stimulating hormone, promoting the normal development of follicles. Increased follicle-stimulating hormone concentration is the key to inducing ovulation in patients with PCOS. Clomiphene treatment can cause ovulation in more than 80% of patients. The specific usage starts from the 5th day of the menstrual cycle, once a day, 50 mg each time, for 5 consecutive days. Ovulation usually occurs 7 to 10 days after taking the medicine. If treatment is ineffective after 1 or 2 cycles, increase the dose to 100 mg per day for 5 days. Measure basal body temperature during medication (see Question 307) and observe whether there is an ovulatory biphasic curve.

(2) Ovarian wedge resection, which is the removal of part of the ovary in a wedge shape. Before the advent of clomiphene, the treatment for PCOS was wedge removal of the ovaries. The therapeutic effect is obvious. Most patients ovulate and become pregnant soon after the operation. Now that clomiphene is available, ovarian wedge resection is rarely used and is reserved for patients who do not respond to medical treatment.

Ovulation-stimulating drugs:

Clomiphene, Clomifene CitrateTablets. This product is suitable for inducing ovulation in women with the following conditions:

1. Hypothalamic pituitary dysfunction (including polycystic ovary syndrome PCOS)

2. Induce polyfollicular development in women undergoing superovulation with assisted conception techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). When engaging in infertility treatment, medication should be used according to the instructions of the clinical physician. It has strong anti-estrogen effect and weak estrogenic activity. Low doses can promote the secretion of gonadotropin by the anterior pituitary, thereby inducing ovulation; high doses are more obvious; they inhibit the release of pituitary gonadotropin, which promotes sperm production in men and is effective for oligospermia. Oral administration: For menstruating women, take 50 mg once a day starting from the 5th day of the menstrual period for 5 consecutive days; for non-menstruating women, take 50 mg once a day starting from any day for 5 consecutive days.

Generally, ovulation occurs about 7 days after taking the medicine, and menstruation occurs naturally 3 weeks later. Three consecutive cycles constitute one course of treatment. Patients with amenorrhea can first use progesterone (20 mg intramuscularly once a day) or artificial cycle (1 mg of diethylstilbestrol once a day for 20 consecutive days, followed by 10 mg of progesterone intramuscularly once a day) to induce menstruation, and start taking this product on the 5th day of withdrawal bleeding. The daily dose should not exceed 100 mg. For male infertility, 25 mg once a day for 25 consecutive days as a course of treatment. After stopping the medication for 5 days, repeat the dose until the sperm count reaches normal standards. Generally, the therapeutic effect is good within 3 to 12 months.
