Causes of spotting during early pregnancy

Causes of spotting during early pregnancy

When pregnant women experience spotting in the early stages of pregnancy, it is very serious and will make them feel particularly worried and scared, because early spotting may be a precursor to miscarriage. Therefore, pregnant women should avoid emotional excitement and excessive exercise in the early stages of pregnancy, and should go to the hospital for treatment in time if there is bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy. Now let us understand the causes of spotting in early pregnancy and then take measures to prevent these causes.

Causes of bleeding in early pregnancy

Bleeding in early pregnancy, partial bleeding is safe, pregnant mothers should not worry too much

Partial bleeding is safe

During early pregnancy, approximately 50% of expectant mothers will experience bleeding. Some bleeding is safe, such as implantation bleeding, bleeding caused by polyps, etc. Therefore, when encountering bleeding due to these reasons, expectant mothers do not need to worry too much.

1Implantation bleeding

Everyone knows that pregnancy means amenorrhea, but in the early stages of pregnancy, when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, there will generally be slight bleeding for one or two days. Next, when the placenta implants on the inner wall of the uterus, a small amount of bleeding is also normal. This is a normal manifestation of fetal growth and development.

2Bleeding caused by polyps

Polyps are small benign bumps that grow at the opening of the uterus. The blood from the polyps sometimes mixes with the secretions from the cervix, causing bleeding. Sometimes, as the pregnancy progresses, polyps will grow larger, but this has no effect on the safety of the fetus and no measures are needed to preserve the fetus. Of course, there are doctors who will remove polyps based on the actual situation. This is a very minor operation and there is nothing to worry about.

3. Mucosal bleeding

The mucous membrane covers the vagina or uterine opening. Because the abdominal cavity is congested after pregnancy, sexual intercourse, gynecological examinations or lifting heavy objects may cause slight bleeding, which usually stops on its own in a short time.

4Less severe cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is extremely common among married women, and 30% to 40% of married women are likely to be infected. This is mainly due to the influence of estrogen levels in the body. In addition, the structure of the female reproductive organs is too suitable for bacterial growth: moist, dark, and with residual blood, etc. Cervical erosion is also one of the more common causes of bleeding during pregnancy. Many expectant mothers who suffer from cervical erosion do not feel anything until they have a check-up due to bleeding during pregnancy and find out that they have the disease. If the symptoms of cervical erosion are mild, treatment can be delayed until after delivery. If the threatened miscarriage is caused by cervical erosion, the doctor will generally recommend that you keep the fetus and rest in bed first. In particularly serious cases, termination of pregnancy may be considered, or other conservative measures may be taken to protect the fetus while providing treatment.

Problematic bleeding situations

During the first three months of pregnancy, the fetus is still unstable and many spontaneous abortions occur during this stage. Therefore, when pregnant mothers have heavy bleeding and abdominal pain, they should be alert to threatened abortion and go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time.

1 Ectopic pregnancy

The fertilized egg should settle in the uterus, but sometimes it somehow ends up in the fallopian tube, which is an ectopic pregnancy. The space in the fallopian tube is very small, and as the fetus grows larger, it will rupture the fallopian tube and cause bleeding. Bleeding caused by ectopic pregnancy usually occurs around two months into the pregnancy, accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and severe abdominal pain. If it is an ectopic pregnancy, surgery must be performed immediately, otherwise the mother's life will be in danger.

2. Hydatidiform mole

Hydatidiform mole refers to the abnormal growth and reproduction of the villi that form the placenta, filling the uterus with grape-like blister-like particles. This bleeding is often continuous and accompanied by persistent abdominal distension. Some patients may also experience abnormal phenomena such as high blood pressure and edema.

3. STDs

If the expectant mother suffers from a sexually transmitted disease (gonorrhea, syphilis, genital warts, etc.), there will be varying degrees of bleeding during pregnancy. This type of bleeding is also relatively easy to identify: the discharged blood is thick and has a fishy smell, and is accompanied by symptoms such as vaginal and vulvar itching. If a threatened abortion is diagnosed as being caused by a sexually transmitted disease, treatment should be initiated immediately and, if necessary, termination of pregnancy should be sought.

4Placenta previa

After the placenta is formed (around the third month of pregnancy), it is usually close to the posterior wall of the uterus. If the fetus is implanted close to the cervical opening, it is called placenta previa, which can easily cause threatened abortion. Even if you don't end up with a miscarriage, you're likely to have spotty bleeding throughout your pregnancy. Therefore, such expectant mothers should rest quietly throughout the pregnancy and avoid any form of strenuous exercise.
