Red spots on the breast

Red spots on the breast

Breast eczema is an allergic inflammation that occurs on the breast skin. When it occurs, there will be some red spots, and these red spots are sometimes large and sometimes small. Some are papule-like, and some are granular. In severe cases, there will be slight edema, and some will have blisters. After the blisters are broken, they will infect other parts and continue to spread, so special attention and treatment are required.

Like breast eczema

Breast eczema is a nonspecific allergic inflammation that occurs on the breast skin. It mostly occurs on the nipple and areola, and sometimes affects the skin around the areola, especially the lower part of the breast. It is common in lactating women and often occurs bilaterally and symmetrically. It is mostly due to the interaction of multiple complex internal and external factors. Allergenic factors are diverse and can come from both inside and outside the body.

Such as sunlight, air, climate, animal fur, plant pollen, chemicals such as cosmetics, dyes, soaps, synthetic fibers, protein foods (such as eggs, fish, shrimps, crabs, cow and sheep milk, etc.), as well as intestinal parasites, tonsils, gingivitis, etc. The main internal cause is allergic constitution.

Clinical features of acute breast eczema

The breast skin appears with numerous dense chestnut-sized erythema and papules, with a flushed base and mild edema. The eczema quickly turns into small blisters, which may erode to form punctate exudates and scabs. The lesion is heavier in the center and lighter at the edges, and it easily expands and spreads to the surrounding areas, so there are often scattered small papules on the periphery.

The affected area is extremely itchy, hot and painful, especially at night. If secondary bacterial infection occurs, the redness of the affected area will be more obvious, the secretions will be thick, and it may be accompanied by swollen axillary lymph nodes, fever and other systemic discomfort symptoms. Acute eczema can gradually subside if treated properly, but it often easily transforms into subacute eczema or chronic eczema. Sometimes, eczema that appears to have improved in appearance may relapse acutely after being exposed to certain stimuli.

Subacute breast eczema

After the redness, swelling and exudation of acute eczema are reduced, the lesions are mainly small papules, or there are still a few erosive surfaces of herpes and small blisters, with crusts and scales. You may still feel itching and burning in the affected area, which worsens at night. Those with chapped skin may also experience pain, which is worse during breastfeeding or skin friction. The course of the disease can last for several weeks and it can easily become chronic. If not properly treated, it may recur as an acute lesion.

Self-diagnosis of chronic breast eczema

The inflammation gradually subsides, and the skin of the affected area becomes thicker, especially the areola and surrounding skin, which becomes rough and thickened, pigmented, and partially lichenified. At this time, the skin lesions are relatively localized, with scratches, punctate exudation, blood scabs and scales. The itching is paroxysmal and worsens when exposed to heat or when falling asleep. The course of chronic eczema often lasts for several months or longer. It can be cured with proper treatment, but it may recur if stimulated again.
