Will edema occur in early pregnancy?

The whole process of pregnancy is very hard, and pregnant women must pay more attention to it in normal times, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. Failure to pay attention may cause the risk of miscarriage. Edema during pregnancy is a very common phenomenon. Most pregnant women will experience edema during pregnancy. However, edema during pregnancy usually occurs in the middle and late stages of pregnancy. If the edema is severe, it is best to pay attention to it.

Will edema occur in early pregnancy?

Generally speaking, edema will not occur in the early stages of pregnancy. It is more likely to occur after the 28th week of pregnancy. Edema during pregnancy is caused by the fluid components in the blood vessels leaking out of the blood vessels and accumulating in the tissue spaces. After 28 weeks of pregnancy, because the pregnant mother's uterus has grown to a certain extent at this time, it may compress venous return. Therefore, pregnant women with poor venous return are more likely to experience lower limb edema at this stage. In addition, during pregnancy, the hormones secreted by the placenta and aldosterone secreted by the adrenal glands increase, causing sodium and water retention in the body, and the urine volume will decrease accordingly. Some pregnant mothers also have severe anemia, low plasma protein, water leakage from blood vessels into the surrounding tissue spaces, etc.

As the number of weeks of pregnancy increases, the edema of the pregnant mother will become increasingly obvious. During the entire pregnancy, body fluid increases by 6-8 liters, of which 4-6 liters are extracellular fluid, which is stored in tissues and causes edema. This phenomenon is quite common during pregnancy, and pregnant mothers don't need to worry. The soles of the feet, ankles, and calves are the most common areas where edema occurs, and sometimes even the face may experience slight swelling. The closer to the due date, the more severe the swelling will be. If it is hot, the swelling will be more obvious. Mild swelling is normal, but if it is accompanied by high blood pressure and proteinuria, the pregnant mother is at risk of developing gestational hypertension and must undergo prenatal examinations and fully cooperate with the doctor.

Edema during pregnancy is a very common phenomenon, and pregnant mothers should treat it with a normal attitude. Pay attention to your diet, eat less salt and sugar, eat more light food, supplement calcium, and do exercises for pregnant women in your spare time. If you find that your feet or legs are a little swollen, you can drink a cup of soy milk without sugar every morning. If you keep drinking it for a week, you will feel better.
