Is the success rate of transplanting 2 fresh embryos high?

Not every thawed frozen embryo is suitable for transplantation during the IVF process. During the IVF process, the excess eggs are frozen, fertilized while ensuring high quality, and finally transplanted into the uterus. This is a very difficult process. Many people will transplant multiple embryos at a time. Whether the chance of success is high or not depends on the individual's physical condition and the transplantation process.

Not every frozen embryo is suitable for transplantation after thawing in IVF

In the treatment of in vitro fertilization, in order to obtain more embryos, doctors generally use ovulation-stimulating drugs to stimulate ovulation and increase the number of mature eggs. Ideally, more than ten eggs can be obtained at a time to form multiple embryos. Then comes the very critical transplantation stage.

Fresh embryo transfer and frozen embryo transfer

In IVF, there are fresh embryo transfer and frozen embryo transfer. Among them, fresh embryo transfer refers to the process in which the female's eggs and the male's sperm are combined and cultured in vitro to form an embryo after the patient has retrieved the eggs. The embryo is then transplanted into the female's uterus on the third or fifth day (the embryo transplanted on the third day is an early cleavage embryo, and the embryo transplanted on the fifth day is a blastocyst).

In order to avoid multiple births, a maximum of three embryos are selected for transplantation at a time for fresh embryo transplantation (generally, patients under 35 years old can transplant a maximum of 2 embryos at a time, and for patients over 35 years old, the number will be increased to 3 in order to increase the success rate of embryo growth and development).

The remaining embryos are frozen as a backup or used when the patient has a second child. There is also a situation where the patient's body is not suitable for transplantation at the current time. At this time, the embryos also need to be frozen first and wait for the appropriate time to thaw and transplant.

Not every frozen embryo is suitable for transplantation after thawing.

Embryo freezing is a technique for preserving embryos. Whether the frozen embryo can be transplanted after thawing depends on the following two factors.

Embryo quality

Before freezing an embryo, the staff will first determine whether the quality of the embryo is suitable for freezing. Generally speaking, if the embryo is of very good quality, then it is suitable for freezing. After this high-quality embryo is thawed, its survival rate is very high.

If the quality of the embryo itself is poor, there will be factors affecting the embryo's development, such as a lot of fragments and insufficient number of cells, during the cultivation process of the fresh embryo. The freezing of such embryos will vary from person to person. If this type of embryo is frozen and then thawed, its implantation ability and survival rate will be affected.

Laboratory level

Freezing embryos is different from freezing and storing things in a refrigerator at home. It is not a simple cooling process. If the laboratory level is not up to standard, the embryos can easily be damaged during the freezing, storage and thawing process, which will in turn affect the success rate of embryo recovery. To avoid this situation, the laboratory should choose appropriate cryoprotectants and corresponding freezing techniques when freezing and thawing embryos.
