Can I take folic acid when my period comes?

Young people nowadays are very planned when they want to have children, and usually need a long time to prepare for pregnancy. Generally speaking, folic acid is needed during the preparation period for pregnancy. Folic acid can reduce the occurrence of fetal deformities and is also good for health. However, some people get their period during the preparation period for pregnancy. Some people worry that taking folic acid during menstruation will be harmful to the body, while some people think that taking folic acid causes their period.

Can I take folic acid when my period comes?

Folic acid is a type of vitamin B. This nutrient is also found in our daily diet. Therefore, during the menstrual period, women who are planning to become pregnant can take folic acid for pregnant women as usual to maintain the folic acid level in their bodies. In addition, some people suspect that folic acid will affect menstruation and cause menstrual irregularities, but this has not been confirmed by research. Usually women who take folic acid have entered the stage of preparing for pregnancy and will give themselves certain psychological expectations and hints, and psychological effects have a great impact on the menstrual period.

What should not be eaten during menstruation

1. Alcohol: Alcohol will consume the body's vitamin B and minerals. Excessive drinking will disrupt carbohydrate metabolism and produce too much estrogen, causing early menstruation and excessive menstrual flow.

2. Soda: Many women who like to drink carbonated drinks will experience fatigue and lack of energy during menstruation, which is a sign of iron deficiency. Because soda and other beverages mostly contain phosphates, which react chemically with iron in the body, making it difficult to absorb iron. In addition, drinking too much soda will neutralize the sodium bicarbonate in the soda with gastric juice, reducing the digestive ability and bactericidal effect of gastric acid and affecting appetite.

3. Sichuan pepper, cloves, and pepper: During menstruation, you should eat light, plain, nutritious foods. Avoid eating spicy foods that are highly irritating, so as not to cause early menstruation and excessive menstrual flow.

4. Crab: Women should avoid eating raw, cold and cool foods during menstruation, especially those who suffer from cold dysmenorrhea.

5. Snails: They are very cool in nature and can clear away heat. Avoid eating cold foods such as snails during menstruation.

How much folic acid should I take every day during pregnancy preparation?

1. Folic acid is one of the vitamin B complex, which is equivalent to pteroylglutamate extracted and purified from spinach leaves. It is the same substance as vitamin M. Folic acid promotes the maturation of young cells in the bone marrow. A lack of folic acid will lead to an increase in abnormal immature red blood cells, anemia, and a decrease in white blood cells.

2. The development of the fetus's nervous system is complete during pregnancy. During the third to fourth week of pregnancy, the neural tube of the embryo should have closed. If it is not completely closed, it is a neural tube defect, which manifests as central nervous system malformations such as spina bifida, encephalocele, and anencephaly. Therefore, women should supplement folic acid during the pregnancy preparation stage to prepare a good pregnancy environment.

3. The best time to supplement folic acid is from 3 months before you plan to become pregnant to the entire pregnancy period. In the second and third trimesters, the synthesis of fetal DNA, the increase of placenta, maternal tissue and red blood cells will greatly increase the pregnant woman's need for folic acid. Therefore, even if the fetal nervous system has been fully developed in the early stages of pregnancy, folic acid deficiency in the middle and late stages of pregnancy can still cause megaloblastic anemia, preeclampsia, and placental abruption.
