Will breast fibroids recur after surgery?

Some women have doubts about whether breast fibroid surgery will cause recurrence. Traditional surgery is prone to recurrence when the removal is not complete. Currently, minimally invasive surgery is more effective in treating female breast fibroids, with thorough treatment and less chance of recurrence. Experts say that this concern can be avoided as long as the surgeon completely removes the capsule and surrounding glandular lobes during the operation and pays attention to whether there are new lesions.

How do breast fibroids come about?

The occurrence of this disease is related to excessive stimulation of estrogen, so it is more common in women aged 20 to 25 who are in their prime sexual function. During pregnancy, lactation or premenopause, the large amount of estrogen secreted can cause tumors to grow rapidly; animal experiments have also confirmed that large amounts of estrogen can induce tumor formation.

Clinical manifestations of breast fibroids

The most common site of breast fibroadenomas is the upper quadrant, and most (about 75%) are solitary, while a few are multiple. The characteristic is a painless solitary mass, which is often discovered accidentally in the medical history; the mass is round or oval in shape, with a diameter of 1 to 5 cm. Occasionally there is a giant fibroadenoma with a diameter of more than 10 cm; the menstrual cycle has no effect on the size of the tumor, and there is no abnormal nipple discharge. The growth rate is relatively slow. Palpation: The lump has a smooth surface, clear boundaries, a tough texture, no adhesion to the skin and surrounding tissues, is easily moved, and the axillary lymph nodes are not enlarged.
