Brown color of lochia after childbirth

Brown color of lochia after childbirth

Women do not have menstruation during pregnancy, so when lochia occurs after delivery, many people consider it as late menstruation. After delivery, the first thing that appears is red bloody lochia, which then turns into brown lochia over time, slowly turns into pink lochia, and finally turns into white, and the color gradually fades. This article introduces the colors of lochia at different stages after delivery. If you want to know more, you can take a look.

The color of lochia at different stages after childbirth

1. Red bloody lochia

The first thing that appears after delivery is red bloody lochia, which will last for one week to ten days before the discharge of bloody lochia gradually stops.

2. Brown lochia

About ten days after delivery, the red lochia will stop and gradually turn into brown lochia. In fact, there is still blood in the brown lochia, but the blood content is less, so it appears brown in front of people.

3. Pink lochia

Brown lochia will stop after about a week and gradually turn into pink lochia. The appearance of pink lochia actually does not contain any blood, but is just the discharge of some necrotic waste tissue inside the uterus.

4. White mucous lochia

When the pink lochia stops turning into white mucous lochia, it means that the postpartum lochia is about to end. The white mucous lochia will disappear after a period of time, which proves that the uterus has basically returned to normal. But please note that it is basically back to normal, not completely back to normal. It will still take some time to completely return to normal. For most women, their uterus returns to normal size around 42 days after delivery.

It is actually normal for postpartum lochia to be brown in color. The color of lochia is different at different times after delivery, so female friends do not need to worry too much. These are all normal phenomena when lochia is discharged, because the lochia discharged at different times are all secretions of the uterus. The more lochia, the more it means that the recovery of the uterus is still in progress, and the less lochia, the gradually stopping of lochia, which means that the uterus is basically recovering.
