Can I eat before curettage?

You can eat before curettage, but if you choose painless curettage, that is, with anesthesia, you cannot eat.

Curettage and dilation refers to a surgery to scrape the endometrium or uterine cavity contents. It is a common minor surgery in obstetrics and gynecology and a type of abortion surgery. Curettage can be performed under anesthesia, a so-called painless procedure, or as a normal operation. The advantage of painless surgery is that the patient has no sensation and no pain. However, anesthesia also has disadvantages, such as anesthesia accidents and respiratory depression. Patients who choose to undergo curettage with anesthesia need to fast before the operation. This is because the operations during anesthesia (such as endotracheal intubation, etc.) and the stimulation of the operation, and the fluctuation of circulation can easily lead to vomiting and suffocation. The possibility of vomiting is much smaller if you don't eat, and the danger is correspondingly reduced. But if it is a normal curettage, that is, without anesthesia, there is no need to fast. So, you can eat before curettage, but if you choose painless curettage, that is, with anesthesia, you cannot eat.

What is painless curettage

Painless curettage, also known as painless uterine cleaning, is a type of curettage that uses an anesthesia technique to make the curettage a painless operation. Curettage and dilation is the process of scraping the uterus, and is the traditional form of artificial abortion. Dilation and curettage is different from artificial abortion. It is used to remove the tissue remaining in the uterine cavity after incomplete abortion, help repair the uterus, and reduce the possibility of bleeding or infection.

process:

1. Urination: The patient should empty his bladder before the operation.

2. Body position: Take the lithotomy position.

3. Disinfection: Use 0.5% complex iodine to disinfect the vulva, vagina, cervix and cervical canal.

4. Laying the towel: Lay the sterile towel.

5. Vaginal examination: Remove the speculum and perform internal examination to check the size, position of the uterus and the degree of cervical dilation.

6. Secondary disinfection: Re-insert the speculum and disinfect the vagina, cervix and cervical canal again with 0.5% iodine solution.

7. Anesthesia is required during painless uterine curettage surgery.

8. Explore the uterine cavity: Use a small dilator to detect the depth of the uterine cavity.

9. Dilate the cervix: When the cervix has dilated and the corresponding suction tube can pass smoothly, it must be dilated.

10. Remove the remaining fetal remains in the uterus.

Note: The longer the pregnancy lasts, the larger the fetus will be. At this time, the cervix needs to be dilated to the maximum limit to scrape out the fetus, so scraping the uterus will be more difficult. At the same time, the longer the pregnancy lasts, the softer the uterus will become, and the chance of piercing the uterus during surgery will naturally increase.

Therefore, generally speaking, curettage can only be used to scrape out the fetus within three months of pregnancy, and it is not advisable to use curettage after three months.
