Swelling of female urethra

Swelling of female urethra

If a woman finds any abnormality in the urethral opening when urinating, she must pay attention, because the female urethral opening is also an area that is prone to bacterial infection, mainly because the location of the urethral opening is relatively awkward. Some female patients find that the urethra opening is obviously swollen during urination. Why does a woman feel swelling at the urethra opening?

What does it feel like when a woman's urethra is swollen?

1. Redness and swelling of the urethral opening is a manifestation of inflammatory infection of the genitourinary system.

2. Acute urethritis causes burning pain in the urethra, frequent urination and urgency during urination. In severe cases, urethral spasm may occur. Urine examination showed pus cells and red blood cells. In chronic urethritis, urethral secretions gradually decrease, or only a small amount of serous secretions can be seen at the urethral opening during the first urination in the early morning. The urination irritation symptoms are no longer as obvious as in the acute phase, and some patients may be asymptomatic. Urethritis can spread directly to the bladder or prostate and cause cystitis. During the healing process of urethral inflammation, fibrosis can cause urethral stenosis.

3. Redness and swelling of the urethral opening may be physiological or pathological. Physiological reasons include foreskin being too long, masturbation, food stimulation, local friction stimulation, etc. In addition, sexual intercourse, urination, and bathing may also cause it. Pathological causes include urethritis, genital herpes, allergies, prostatitis, etc.

What tests should be done for female urethral swelling?

1. Ultrasound examination: The image formed by the echo of ultrasound in the kidneys can reveal changes in the shape, size and internal structure of the kidneys.

2. Urinalysis: Urine examination can reveal pus cells, red blood cells, urine color, transparency, etc., which is helpful for diagnosis.

3. Check for signs of urethritis: whether there are any symptoms of irritation at the urethral opening, whether the urethral opening is red, swollen or has purulent secretions, and whether there is tenderness along the urethra.

4. Secretion staining and bacterial culture: If there are other symptoms and an accurate diagnosis cannot be made, a urethral secretion smear staining or bacterial culture should be performed to check for pathogenic bacteria, which can be used to differentiate it from gonococcal urethritis.

It can be seen from this that the feeling of swelling in the female urethral opening is usually caused by urethritis. Urethritis cannot be cured by itself without treatment. Therefore, when a woman finds that her urethral opening has swelling symptoms, she must be aware of the possibility of urethritis and go to the hospital for relevant examinations as soon as possible. Generally, as long as it is treated in time, urethritis is not difficult to cure and can return to normal after a period of time.
