Breast milk storage temperature

Breast milk storage temperature

For some working mothers, it is very common to go to work while breastfeeding. Of course, in this case, you can choose to store the breast milk and feed it to your baby when he needs it. However, there are many things to pay attention to when storing breast milk, especially the storage of breast milk, which also has certain requirements. This will be introduced below!

1. Breast milk refrigeration temperature

Breast milk is usually stored in a refrigerator. The storage period is generally as follows: it can be stored for 8 days at 0-4℃; if it is a small freezer box in the refrigerator's refrigerator compartment, the storage period is two weeks; if it is a freezer compartment separate from the refrigerator, but the door is opened and closed frequently to take items out, the storage period is 3-4 months; if it is a deep freezer compartment, the temperature is kept below 0℃ and the door is not opened frequently, the storage period is more than 6 months. It's normal for stored breast milk to break down and look a little bluish, yellowish, or brown.

2. Storage time of breast milk at room temperature

Colostrum (milk expressed within 6 days after delivery) - can be stored for 12 hours at room temperature of 27-32℃. Mature breast milk (milk expressed 6 days after delivery) - can be stored at room temperature of 15°C for 24 hours; at room temperature of 19-22°C for 10 hours; at room temperature of 25°C for 6 hours.

3. Precautions for breast milk storage

It is recommended to freeze small amounts of breast milk, keeping the weight at about 60 to 120 grams (there are special breast milk storage bags and breast milk storage bottles on the market with standard measuring scales, which is more convenient). This will avoid waste and is also convenient for choosing consumption according to the baby's hunger level and daily feeding amount.

Before freezing breast milk, mark the year, month, day, etc. on the container. Use the correct milking method to express breast milk directly into a storage cup, with the storage amount being the amount for one feeding of the baby (nowadays it is more convenient with the availability of breast milk pumps and breast milk storage bags). After squeezing each cup of milk, cover it immediately, immerse it in cold water for 1 to 2 minutes, then store it in the refrigerator and use it within 24 hours.

Before feeding, you should heat the milk in water and feed it to your baby when the temperature is suitable.
