Can pregnant women with heatstroke do scraping?

Can pregnant women with heatstroke do scraping?

Gua Sha has many benefits to the body. It can dredge meridians, promote blood circulation, and relieve heat and reduce body temperature. Pregnant women have many taboos and cannot use air conditioners or fans, especially in the hot summer, which can easily lead to heat stroke. Sometimes, in order to relieve the symptoms, scraping is a good Chinese medicine treatment. So, can pregnant women with heat stroke get scraping?

Can pregnant women with heatstroke use scraping therapy?

1. Theoretically, pregnant women who suffer from heatstroke can undergo scraping therapy.

Gua Sha is also called "fa sha" or "scraping sha" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is believed that it is caused by the patient's weak constitution and excessive fatigue, which leads to a deficiency of vital energy and allows the evil heat of summer to enter. Gua Sha can promptly remove the summer heat and dampness, and has the effects of relieving exterior symptoms, clearing away summer heat, calming the mind and invigorating the mind. This method is used both clinically and among the public, and has good efficacy. In theory, it is also suitable for pregnant women.

2. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women to use scraping therapy after suffering from heatstroke.

1. If a pregnant woman suffers from heatstroke, scraping is definitely not the first choice. Heatstroke is caused by overheating, which leads to the body's temperature regulation disorder, water and electrolyte imbalance and even damage to the nervous system. The key is to cool down and replenish water and electrolytes. Pregnant women who suffer from heatstroke should pay special attention to replenishing water and electrolytes to prevent shock caused by affected circulating blood volume. It is best to seek medical attention promptly.

2. It is best to avoid all unnecessary medication during pregnancy to prevent effects on the fetus. Also, it is best to avoid stimulating treatments such as scraping, acupuncture, and sweat steaming. Gua Sha may stimulate some acupoints and is not suitable for pregnant women. Pregnant women may accidentally cause uterine contractions and may cause miscarriage.

3. Scraping has the effect of detoxification, but nutrients will also be lost. Pregnant women are in need of nutrition now, and scraping may have an impact on the baby.

Tips: In short, although scraping can theoretically relieve heatstroke in pregnant women, and there should be no problem unless there are unexpected events, safety of pregnant women is the first priority after all. Therefore, it is not recommended to use scraping for pregnant women with heatstroke.

Precautions for scraping during pregnancy

1. Remember which parts should not be scraped.

It is best not for pregnant women to have scraping. Even if they have to do it, they are forbidden to scrape the abdomen, lumbar sacral area, and nipples of pregnant women. Also, patients with leukemia or low platelet count should be careful when scraping. People with heart failure, renal failure, liver cirrhosis, ascites, and severe edema of the whole body are prohibited from scraping.

The parts of the body that can be scraped for pregnant women suffering from heatstroke include the neck (midline of the neck, both sides of the neck to the shoulders), back (midline of the back, both sides of the back), upper limbs (shoulders, arms, elbows), and lower limbs, all scraped from top to bottom. Scrape each part for 3 to 5 minutes, until sha (purple-red sha marks) appear. Do not scrape for a maximum of 10 minutes. Do not force the appearance of sha.

2. Pregnant women must use gentle techniques when scraping and should not scrape a large area.

3. Pregnant women who have skin injuries or skin diseases should not do the scraping.
