What is vaginal candidiasis?

Candidal vaginitis is a candidiasis of the female vulva, which is caused by Candida albicans and is a common and frequent vaginal inflammatory disease. 20% of women have this bacteria in their vagina, and 30% of pregnant women also have it in their vagina, but because the amount of bacteria is small, it does not cause symptoms. Only when a woman's overall and vaginal immunity is weakened will Candida multiply in large numbers and cause symptoms of vaginitis.

Symptoms of vaginal candidiasis

The early symptoms of female candidal vaginitis should be discovered in time, and diagnosis and treatment should be carried out as soon as possible after the early symptoms of candidal vaginitis appear. Vaginitis can cause female infertility. If the inflammation ascends to infect the internal reproductive organs, it can also cause pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis and other serious gynecological diseases.

1. Vulvar itching

After suffering from candidal vaginitis, there will be varying degrees of itching symptoms, and both the vulva and vagina will have unbearable itching.

The vulva and vagina are burning and itchy. The itching symptoms may be mild or severe, and may come and go. When the itching is severe, the patient may be restless and have difficulty sleeping or eating. When the inflammation is severe, urination pain and sexual intercourse pain may also occur. In addition, vulvar erythema and edema may occur, often accompanied by vulvar scratches. In severe cases, vulvar skin cracks and peeling may occur.

2. Abnormal leucorrhea

In the early stages of candidal vaginitis, the amount of leucorrhea will increase, and some leucorrhea will be curd-like or flaky. Due to different body constitutions and causes of the disease, the leucorrhea can range from watery to curd-like.

The amount of vaginal discharge increases, and it is white and sticky, curd-like or tofu-like, adhering to the inner side of the labia minora and the vaginal mucosa, and easily bleeding due to friction. About 50% of patients have a lot of watery or purulent leucorrhea without white flakes. The symptoms are not severe, and only the vulva is wet.

3. Edema

Another symptom of candidal vaginitis is that the vagina and vaginal vestibule mucosa will be highly edematous and covered with a white curd-like film, which is usually distributed in dots or sheets. Some will form ulcers. In severe cases, the labia minora will become swollen and adhered.

4. Other symptoms

The inflammatory secretions of candidal vaginitis may spread to the urethra and cause frequent urination. Symptoms such as urinary urgency and pain when urinating.

In addition, about 10% of women and 30% of pregnant women are carriers of mold but have no clinical symptoms.

Treatment of vaginal candidiasis

For simple vulvovaginal candidiasis, local medication is the main choice. Generally, the symptoms will be alleviated or disappear within 2-3 days after medication. Clotrimazole vaginal suppository, use every 3 days, 2 times in total.

Regarding the treatment of complicated vulvovaginal candidiasis, the selected drugs are basically the same as those for simple vulvovaginal candidiasis. Whether local or systemic medications are used, the treatment time should be appropriately extended.

Pregnant women who suffer from vaginal candidiasis do not know what to do. At this time, the treatment method must be chosen without affecting the fetus. It mainly relies on local medication and cannot be used systemically on pregnant women.
