Are there any signs before seeing blood?

Generally speaking, women will have some symptoms before giving birth, but some people's symptoms are more obvious, while others may not have any symptoms. For example, some women will have symptoms of spotting, while some women will have symptoms of water breaking. In fact, most people will have irregular abdominal pain before spotting, but once regular abdominal pain occurs, you need to go to the hospital in time, because it means that delivery is approaching.

What are the symptoms before water breaks?

As the uterine contractions intensify and the pressure in the uterine cavity increases, the amniotic sac ruptures and the clear yellowish amniotic fluid in the sac flows out. Generally, delivery will occur soon after the water breaks. The mother should be immediately sent to the hospital for delivery in a supine position. She must not stand upright or sit up to avoid the umbilical cord from falling out and causing serious consequences.

Within 24-28 hours before delivery, the cervix begins to move, causing the fetal membrane near the internal os of the cervix to separate from the uterine wall. The capillaries rupture and a small amount of blood is discharged through the vagina and mixed with the mucus in the cervical canal and discharged. This bloody mucus flowing out of the vagina is what we commonly call "seeing blood", and it is a reliable sign that delivery is about to begin. Therefore, when the due date arrives and the pregnant woman has irregular uterine contractions, she should promptly notice this sign, especially if she finds that the shorts near the vaginal opening feel wet and uncomfortable. She should immediately check whether there is bloody secretion on the shorts. If so, she should go to the obstetrics and gynecology hospital without delay to prevent accidents.

Generally, about 2 weeks before delivery, the mother will experience irregular abdominal tightness and pain, which is uterine contraction. This type of uterine contraction usually does not exceed half a minute and is irregular. It can be reduced or stopped after rest, so it is called false labor. If the abdominal pain of the parturient gradually intensifies, lasts longer, the intervals become shorter and shorter, and the abdominal pain becomes more and more severe, it indicates that delivery is imminent.

What should I prepare before my water breaks?

1. Contact the hospital promptly. When expectant mothers wake up in the morning or find that their water has broken at other times, they should tell their family members in time or contact the hospital with which they have made an appointment before, reserve a room and bed, tell the doctor who answers the phone their detailed situation, and be sure to state if an ambulance is needed. If not, they should prepare some personal belongings as soon as possible with the help of their family and check in to the hospital in advance.

2. Take a bath in advance. During the days when the amniotic fluid is about to break, women will definitely feel uncomfortable, as if something is about to fall out and they are having to hold their urine. Then you need to prepare for the upcoming delivery in advance, and take a bath if you feel uncomfortable. Because it is not appropriate to take a bath within two or three days after delivery, especially if it is a caesarean section, you must not touch the sink. Doing a good job of cleaning and sanitation in advance can also effectively prevent wound infection after delivery.

3. Check the items to be stored. Although the things needed by the baby and the adults have been prepared after the due date, you still need to check again at the last moment. It is best to have your closest family member do the check. Bring everything you need with you, so that you don't realize after arriving at the hospital that you forgot to bring this or that. If expectant mothers have the physical strength to keep up, it is best for them to check themselves. At the last moment, husbands are often more stressed out due to excitement and worry and are more likely to forget.
