What to do if you vomit a lot during early pregnancy

Don’t think that you will only feel uncomfortable in the late pregnancy. In fact, the earlier the pregnancy, the more obvious and severe the symptoms will be. There are generally several common situations in the early pregnancy. The first is insomnia, the second is long-term water testing, and some people will experience nausea and vomiting. Pregnancy reactions are divided into three stages: mild, severe, urgent and non-urgent. If you vomit severely in the early pregnancy, what should you do in this situation?

Pregnant women experience varying degrees of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. It is generally divided into three types according to its severity. In the early stages of pregnancy, there is mild nausea and vomiting in the early morning that does not affect life or work. This is morning sickness and does not require special treatment. It usually disappears on its own within 12 weeks of pregnancy. If nausea and vomiting worsen, not just in the morning but also at other times, the symptoms can be relieved to moderate vomiting through drug treatment and dietary adjustments. If nausea and vomiting occur frequently and the patient cannot eat, leading to dehydration, acidosis, electrolyte imbalance, and abnormal liver function, it is severe vomiting.

The exact cause of vomiting in pregnant women is still unknown. It may be related to a sharp increase in human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the blood, which reduces gastric acid, weakens gastric motility, causes autonomic nervous system dysfunction, excessive parasympathetic nerve excitement and mental imbalance.

Some people also believe that reduced adrenal cortex function and insufficient secretion of cortical hormones lead to disorders in the body's water and sugar metabolism, resulting in stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Vitamin B6 deficiency is also one of the causes of the disease. Pregnant women with mental stress often suffer from the disease when they are overly fond of, disgusted with, or fearful of pregnancy. This may be due to dysfunction of the cerebral cortex and subcortical centers, leading to dysfunction of the hypothalamic autonomic nervous system. This suggests that vomiting in pregnant women may be related to mental factors.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, stomach pain and vomiting in pregnant women are mainly due to "upward flow of qi and disharmony of the stomach." Common clinical symptoms include spleen and stomach weakness, liver-stomach disharmony, phlegm-dampness obstruction, and deficiency of both Qi and Yin.

Pregnant women who experience stomach pain or vomiting should get adequate rest and sleep. Tell pregnant women that vomiting is a temporary physiological phenomenon that will disappear soon, so as to increase their confidence in recovery. Eat small, frequent meals and a light diet. Keep bowel movements regular. In case of severe vomiting that affects the health of pregnant women, go to the hospital for treatment in time.
