Is it dangerous to have the placenta close to the cervix?

Some pregnant women in their third or fourth month of pregnancy found on the ultrasound report during their prenatal checkup that the outer edge of the embryo was close to the internal os of the cervix. The pregnant woman was terrified, thinking it was placenta previa and was high-risk. I don’t know what to do. In fact, the outer edge of the embryo is close to the internal os of the cervix. Many pregnant women have this situation. Generally speaking, if the B-ultrasound data shows that the placenta is in a lower position during the 12-28 weeks of pregnancy, the doctor will indicate it on the diagnosis result. If a low-lying placenta occurs during the first pregnancy, the doctor will not make special treatments, but will ask the pregnant woman to rest and observe.

This is because in the later stages of pregnancy, the volume of the uterus will increase, and the embryo will move to the upper end of the uterus. It is likely that the position of the placenta will be normal before long.

There are several types of placenta previa. Complete placenta previa means that the embryonic tissue completely covers the internal cervical opening; partial placenta previa is just as its name suggests, with only part of the embryonic tissue covering the cervical opening.

Relatively speaking, low-lying placenta is a relatively mild type among the three types of placenta previa, but pregnant mothers should not ignore it.

This type of low-lying placenta can also be dangerous. Possible adverse effects include premature birth of the fetus, internal bleeding during delivery, and because the placental detachment surface is close to the external cervical os, bacteria can invade the placental detachment surface from the vagina, coupled with postpartum anemia and weak constitution, it is easy to have puerperal infection.

Of course, pregnant mothers with this kind of low placenta problem don't need to be too anxious. If they follow the doctor's diagnosis and treatment advice, most pregnant women will give birth to their babies. We have consulted and found that some pregnant women found that the placenta was in a low position during the 22-week check-up. They then stayed at home for pregnancy treatment and rested in bed. When they checked again during the 31st week, the embryo had already grown and everything was normal.
