Leg pain during early pregnancy

Leg pain during early pregnancy

The soreness in the legs of normal people can be attributed to two aspects. One is any joint disease of the individual, and the other is muscle soreness. If the leg pain is in a pregnant woman, we also need to consider the impact of body nutrition and forward shift of the center of gravity. Pregnant women have to take care of the nutrition needs of two people, so sometimes they may suffer from sore and swollen legs due to calcium deficiency. Also, the hormones secreted by pregnant women’s bodies may relax the nerves in the legs, back and waist, compressing some nerves and causing sore legs.

1. Leg pain in early pregnancy is caused by arthritis and rheumatism

If pregnant women experience leg pain that worsens in cooler weather or when exposed to wind, it is necessary to consider whether it is caused by arthritis or rheumatism, and to go to a specialist medical institution for testing as soon as possible to obtain early diagnosis and treatment.

2. Leg pain in pregnant women may also be caused by sciatica

Some pregnant women experience pain in the buttocks and outer calves during pregnancy, which sometimes involves the lower back. The pain usually spreads gradually, which is sciatica. The main reason is that during pregnancy, the ligaments around the lumbar spine are more relaxed than usual due to the influence of ovarian relaxing hormones. In addition, due to excessive lordosis of the spine, the intervertebral disc is abnormally compressed. Under the effect of the above two factors. It causes the intervertebral disc to bulge, compressing the nerve roots and causing sciatica pain.

3. Leg pain in early pregnancy is caused by calcium deficiency

Pregnant women in the second trimester often experience cramps, back and leg pain, bone and joint pain, swelling, etc. These are most likely caused by calcium deficiency. We all know that the main element of bones is calcium. As children grow older, their need for calcium increases. Therefore, pregnant mothers also lose a lot of calcium, and their bones may be damaged and cause pain.

4. Other causes of leg pain in early pregnancy

The pain in the groin is caused by excessive separation of the pubic symphysis. The pubic bones are two bones located in the front of the pelvis. There is a gap in the middle instead of being close together. The two bones are connected by ligaments and fibrous cartilage tissue. This area is called the pubic symphysis.

In the later stages of pregnancy, the uterus becomes very large and may tilt backwards. This will compress areas of high muscle tension such as the psoas major muscle or tendons. In addition, the body's progesterone and estrogen will change during pregnancy, the sensitivity of the pregnant woman's peripheral nerves will decrease, and the tissues in the body will be prone to edema, leading to back pain.
