Is hydatidiform mole a tumor?

Most hydatidiform moles are actually benign lesions. Generally, with active treatment, they rarely become malignant. There is generally no age limit for hydatidiform mole and it can occur at any age. Hydatidiform mole is very harmful to women's health. Severe cases may affect women's fertility. You must maintain a good mood at ordinary times. As long as you actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment, hydatidiform mole is generally not as serious as everyone imagines.

What is hydatidiform mole?

Hydatidiform mole, also known as vesicular mole, is a benign lesion of the placental villi. It can occur at any age during the childbearing period, but is more common in women under 20 years old and over 40 years old. This may be related to ovarian insufficiency or decline.

The cause of hydatidiform mole is not yet fully understood, and it is more common after 8-12 weeks of pregnancy. There is irregular vaginal bleeding with varying amounts that stops and starts, and it recurs repeatedly and gradually increases. When the hydatidiform mole tissue is about to be discharged on its own, heavy bleeding may occur, leading to shock or even death.

Because hydatidiform mole grows quickly, the volume of the uterus is generally larger than that of the amenorrhea month. In a small number of cases, the uterus is smaller than or equal to that of the amenorrhea month. Due to the rapid growth of hydatidiform mole and excessive expansion of the uterus, paroxysmal lower abdominal pain will occur. If the ovarian hormone cyst twists or ruptures, acute abdominal pain may occur. The vomiting reaction of this pregnancy is often much more severe than that of normal pregnancy. Some patients also experience hypertension, edema and proteinuria. The symptoms are severe and can easily develop into preeclampsia.

Hydatidiform mole is benign, the lesion is confined to the uterine cavity, does not invade the myometrium, and does not metastasize to distant sites. A small number of benign hydatidiform moles can become malignant. Once a hydatidiform mole is diagnosed, it should be removed promptly. The most commonly used method is uterine aspiration, which uses a negative pressure suction device for artificial abortion to suck the hydatidiform mole out of the uterine cavity. Generally, one operation is difficult to completely remove it, and another curettage is required after one week. Each time, the fetus should be sent for pathological examination.

Is malignant hydatidiform mole cancer?

Malignant hydatidiform mole is a type of cancer. Hydatidiform mole is divided into benign hydatidiform mole and malignant hydatidiform mole. Benign hydatidiform mole can be cured after treatment, but some of them will recur repeatedly, and recurrent hydatidiform mole has a high risk of malignant transformation.

Hydatidiform mole, also known as vesicular mole, refers to the abnormal proliferation of trophoblastic cells of the placental villi after pregnancy, with the terminal villi transforming into blisters. The blisters are connected in clusters and shaped like grapes, hence the name. When the blister-like tissue of a hydatidiform mole exceeds the scope of the uterine cavity, invades deep into the uterine myometrium or metastasizes to other parts, it is called a malignant hydatidiform mole. Malignant hydatidiform mole usually occurs within 6 months after the hydatidiform mole is eliminated, but in some people, the hydatidiform mole becomes malignant before it is eliminated.

Symptoms include irregular vaginal bleeding of varying amounts. Some patients with malignant hydatidiform mole will experience varying degrees of intra-abdominal bleeding, acute abdominal pain, and shock when bleeding is excessive. After the villi of malignant hydatidiform mole fall off, they will be transferred to other parts of the body through blood circulation, destroying tissues and forming hematomas of varying sizes.
