Miscarriage symptoms and menstrual symptoms

Miscarriage symptoms and menstrual symptoms

The symptoms of miscarriage and menstruation are somewhat similar, because both involve bleeding in the female's lower body, which leads to many women being unable to tell whether they are experiencing symptoms of miscarriage or menstruation. Menstruation is a very important symptom in women's body because it indicates that women's body has entered a mature stage. But what is the difference between miscarriage symptoms and menstrual symptoms?

How to distinguish miscarriage from menstruation

Menstruation refers to the regular monthly vaginal bleeding of women. When women enter puberty, their ovaries begin to mature and start to secrete female hormones, and the endometrium changes accordingly, resulting in menstruation. The normal menstrual cycle of women should be 28 days. The menstrual period usually lasts 3-5 days, and the amount of menstrual blood is about 20-50 ml. Some women experience symptoms such as lower abdominal distension, back pain, breast development, emotional distress, and stomach pain before or during menstruation.

Miscarriage refers to the death of the fetus in the womb during a pregnancy of more than three months but before 24 weeks of pregnancy due to weak Qi and blood, kidney deficiency, etc. Signs of miscarriage are abdominal cramps, vaginal bleeding and red discharge. Studies have found that in the early stages of pregnancy, about 50% of fertilized embryos cannot develop successfully and will be excreted from the body with menstrual blood.

If it is a natural miscarriage, in addition to bleeding, there will be tissue discharge. The blood will be relatively bright in color, and there will be translucent substances as big as one or two pounds of meat. However, if menstruation comes, there will generally be no above symptoms.

Types of miscarriage

Incomplete miscarriage: It is an inevitable miscarriage in which the fetus has been delivered, but part or all of the placenta remains in the uterine cavity. The difference between threatened abortion and menstruation is that the uterus contracts, vaginal bleeding increases, and even heavy bleeding may cause shock.

Complete abortion: The fetus and placenta are completely expelled, the difference between threatened abortion and menstruation, bleeding stops, and abdominal pain disappears.

Threatened abortion: only a small amount of vaginal bleeding, accompanied by lower abdominal pain and lower back pain. Threatened abortion and menstruation can be distinguished by doing a vaginal examination.

Inevitable miscarriage: It is the further development of threatened miscarriage. Threatened miscarriage and vaginal miscarriage can be distinguished by the amount of vaginal bleeding. Inevitable miscarriage has vaginal bleeding that exceeds the amount of menstruation, and lower abdominal cramps are aggravated.
