What happens if a woman loses her ovaries?

The ovaries are a very important part of the female body. Many women want to achieve pregnancy, which is mainly the product of the combination of eggs produced in the ovaries and sperm. Even some female hormones originate from the ovaries. The ovaries are a very important part of a woman's structure, and it is very serious when a woman does not have ovaries. So what are the dangers of women not having ovaries?

.

The ovaries have two main functions:

1. Producing eggs: The female egg and the male sperm combine to become a fertilized egg, which then continues to divide, proliferate and differentiate to become an embryo, and eventually matures into a fetus. This is how each of us comes into being. If you don't have ovaries (either on either side), you won't have eggs and you won't be able to have children of your own.

2. The main source of female hormones: Female secondary sexual characteristics need to be maintained by female hormones. For example, the menstrual cycle, breast development, delicate skin, pregnancy and childbirth are all inseparable from female hormones. Therefore, without ovaries, female characteristics will not be obvious, which is equivalent to an elderly woman after menopause, who will not have menstruation (even though she has a uterus, she still will not have menstruation) and will not be able to conceive a baby. In addition, without female hormones, the structure and function of other organs may also be affected. For example, bones will become more porous, so elderly women are prone to osteoporosis.

Of course, since a small amount of estrogen may come from other sources, it does not mean that one will completely lose female characteristics after the ovaries are removed. In addition, for women, if the ovaries are removed for medical reasons, this function of the ovaries can be replaced to a certain extent by exogenous supplements, such as hormone replacement therapy, but it must be used under the guidance of a doctor and after weighing the pros and cons, and it must not be abused, otherwise it may increase the risk of other diseases.

If you need to remove both ovaries due to disease treatment (such as ovarian cancer), do not avoid the surgery. Although ovarian removal does have an impact on women, the impact of losing ovaries is much smaller than the threat of cancer, and the consequences of ovarian loss can be compensated by taking certain measures.
