I believe that many people who have a certain understanding of biological and physiological reactions will know that if a woman wants to achieve pregnancy, the egg in her body needs to combine with the male sperm to achieve the effect of pregnancy, and this process requires the sperm to enter the female ovary to truly achieve the result of conception. Then some people will ask, how long does it take for the sperm to get to the ovary? Where does it pass through?

Mature sperm starts from the seminiferous tubules, enters the epididymis, and is stored in the tail of the epididymis. During ejaculation, the sperm must pass through the 20-40 cm long male and female reproductive tract (70,000 times the length of the sperm itself) before reaching the female's fallopian tube. Less than one in a million sperm can complete this journey. This is not only difficult due to the movement itself, but more importantly, the sperm must undergo a series of changes during the movement of the male and female reproductive tract. Hundreds of millions of sperm enter the vagina during each ejaculation, but generally no more than 200 sperm can reach the fallopian tube.

There are two types of sperm movement in the female body: fast and slow.

One is that within 5-10 minutes after ejaculation, the sperm quickly passes through the cervix and reaches the fallopian tube in a short time (about 1 hour). Whether this part of the sperm can fertilize depends on the necessary number of sperm (about 200)

Another way is that a large number of sperm enter the cervical crypts to form a semen reservoir, and sperm is continuously released from the semen reservoir within 10-150 minutes after ejaculation to ensure that sperm continuously enters the fallopian tube to fertilize the egg.

The survival time of sperm in the female reproductive tract is as follows:

2.5 hours in the vagina, 48 hours in the cervix, 24 hours in the uterine cavity, and 48 hours in the fallopian tube.

It is generally believed that sperm can only maintain fertilizing ability within 20 hours after sexual intercourse.

Damaged sperm are eliminated in the vagina. The leukocytes in the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes have phagocytic effects and will also eliminate some sperm. However, most sperm are selectively eliminated in barrier sites such as the cervix, the bottom of the uterus, and the fallopian tubes.
