How much residual after medical abortion should be cured?

After medical abortion, if residue occurs, this is also quite common in medical abortion. When residue occurs, two methods are generally used for treatment. First, an ultrasound examination is required to see how much residue there is. If the residue is large, a curettage is required. If the residue is relatively small, it can be treated with medication. Let us learn about this aspect.

How much residual after medical abortion should be cured?

Generally, 10 days after medical abortion, you can check (B-ultrasound) to see if there are any residual stools in the uterus. Usually, if there are very few residual stools, the doctor will recommend conservative treatment and prescribe some medicine to remove them. However, if there are many residual stools, uterine cleaning is necessary.

The residue after medical abortion should be cleaned out in time, because it is easy to cause persistent vaginal bleeding and infection. The residual tissue is large, and because it has been a long time since the medical abortion, the residue may have been ossified and will not be easily expelled by taking medicine.

Medical abortion, also known as drug abortion, refers to the use of Mifepristone tablets plus misoprostol to terminate early pregnancy. In recent years, it has been widely used in clinical practice and is a very popular drug for preventing early pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy, abortion can be achieved without surgery by injection or medication. The use of drugs to terminate pregnancy and medical abortion is the latest development in the past 20 years. Currently, the commonly used drugs are mifepristone tablets (Ru 486) and prostaglandins. The former causes degeneration and necrosis of the uterine decidua and softening of the cervix, while the latter causes uterine contraction and promotes the expulsion of the embryo.

It usually takes three to four days to terminate an unwanted pregnancy with medical abortion. Under normal circumstances, it takes four days to take the medicine for medical abortion, on an empty stomach, one tablet each morning and evening for the first three days, and three tablets at a time on the fourth day. Generally, there is no feeling in the first three days, but the pain becomes more severe after taking the medicine on the fourth day. Some people do not react obviously.

The process of medical abortion

1. Strict screening before medication

Before taking the medicine, the doctor will ask about the medical history, conduct a full physical examination and gynecological examination, and do laboratory tests such as urine pregnancy test, vaginal cleanliness, Trichomonas and fungi, blood routine and blood type, and perform B-ultrasound examination if necessary.

2. Detailed introduction before taking the medicine

Before using medication, doctors must carefully explain to women and their families how to use the medication, its efficacy, and possible dangerous situations. Medication can only be used after obtaining the consent of the pregnant woman and her family.

3. Common dosage for medical abortion

The dosage of mifepristone tablets is 150~200 mg, which can be taken all at once or in divided doses within 3 days. On the third day, go to the hospital to add prostaglandin preparations: 1 mg of carboprostol suppository placed in the vagina or 600 micrograms of misoprostol taken orally. Pregnant women should be observed in the hospital for 6 hours after use.

4. Monitoring during abortion

Pregnant women need to be hospitalized for observation after taking the medicine. The observation should include the pregnant woman's blood pressure, pulse, and urination and defecation. The urine and feces of pregnant women must be kept in a clean bedpan and checked and recorded by professionals. The records should include whether the fetal sac has been expelled, the specific time of expulsion, and the amount of bleeding.

5. Family monitoring

After taking the medicine, the patient needs to be observed in the hospital for about 6 hours. If the fetal sac is not expelled during this period and the amount of bleeding in the lower body is not much, you can go home first and return for a follow-up visit in time according to the doctor's instructions. It should be noted that if the gestational sac is expelled when the pregnant woman is at home, the gestational sac still needs to be taken to the hospital for examination.

In addition, although medical abortion does not require surgery, women still need to rest at home for about two weeks and need to observe vaginal bleeding at any time. If excessive bleeding or other symptoms are found, they need to go to the hospital immediately.
