10 days after the abortion, there are a lot of blood clots

Medical abortion is different from a traditional cesarean section. Cesarean section involves inserting instruments into the vagina to scrape out the gestational sac in the uterus, which often causes the uterine wall to thin and affects the next fertility. Medical abortion is not as quick and clean as a cesarean section and usually requires many days of bleeding symptoms. Many women have concerns after having a medical abortion. There are still a lot of blood clots ten days after the abortion. Is this normal?

How long does bleeding last after medication abortion?

After medical abortion, the average number of days of bleeding after the fetal sac is expelled is 16 days.

If someone is still bleeding for more than 18 days, it may be that the decidua is not completely detached, affecting uterine contraction and hemostasis; or the fetal sac is not completely expelled, leading to incomplete abortion; a small number of patients are infected after medical abortion surgery, resulting in endometrial inflammation.

If there are residual objects that are not cleared from the uterus, vaginal bleeding will be prolonged, thereby increasing the chance of infection. If ascending infection is caused, resulting in blockage of the fallopian tubes, pregnancy will be affected.

Because the bleeding time after medical abortion is long and the cervix relaxes, it provides opportunities for bacterial growth and retrograde infection. Therefore, if vaginal bleeding lasts for more than 7 days, antibiotics should be taken routinely for 3-5 days to prevent infection.

In order to recover as quickly as possible after medical abortion, you must pay attention to the following issues: Do not have sexual intercourse within one month after medical abortion to avoid infection; Do not take a bath after medical abortion to avoid reproductive tract infection. When washing your hair or taking a bath, make sure to use hot water, get enough rest, eat light food, avoid spicy food, and pay attention to strengthening nutrition. If there is excessive bleeding, you can eat some blood-enriching food appropriately.

Is it necessary to have a uterine curettage after medical abortion?

A follow-up examination is required after medical abortion. If there is no residue, there is no need for uterine curettage. If there is any residue, the uterus needs to be cleaned up as soon as possible. Otherwise, the residues remaining in the uterus will affect the contraction and involution of the uterus, causing long-term bleeding, which can easily lead to endometritis or endometrial adhesions, fallopian tube adhesions, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. In severe cases, it may lead to infertility.

Sometimes the onset of menstruation does not mean that there is no residual stool. It is recommended that patients go to the hospital for a follow-up examination. If there is any residual stool, the uterus should be cleaned in time.

Precautions after medical abortion

1. After the tissue is discharged, you need to stay in the hospital for observation for 1 hour. If the vaginal bleeding is not too much, you can go home and rest.

2. Get adequate rest within 2 weeks after miscarriage, eat nutritious food, and avoid heavy physical labor.

3. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the perineum. Do not take a bath or have sexual intercourse when vaginal bleeding has not stopped.

4. In the first 2 to 3 days after abortion, the amount of vaginal bleeding is generally equivalent to or slightly more than the menstrual amount. If the amount of vaginal bleeding is heavy or persistent, seek medical attention promptly.

5. Patients with no tissue discharge should be observed for 2 weeks after medication. During this period, attention should be paid to whether there is any tissue discharge during urination and defecation, and urine should be collected for pregnancy test every week.

6. Ovulation may resume soon after miscarriage, so contraceptive measures should be taken to avoid pregnancy again.

What are the symptoms of clean abortion?

The symptoms of complete bleeding after medical abortion are generally manifested as organized bleeding, the bleeding time is about 1-3 weeks, and the bleeding becomes less day by day. After about 2 to 3 days, the embryonic sac in the uterine cavity will be discharged. At this time, there will be more vaginal bleeding, and there may be reactions such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and abdominal pain. The decidual tissue in the uterus often takes about 2 weeks to be slowly discharged, and then the bleeding stops. This is a symptom of a complete medical abortion.

The shortest duration of vaginal bleeding after medical abortion is 4 days, and the longest is 45 to 60 days, with an average of about 16 days. If the bleeding duration is too long and does not stop, it is very likely that the medical abortion was not complete. If the amount of bleeding is greater than the normal menstrual volume or is accompanied by obvious abdominal pain, infection or incomplete abortion may be considered.

Opinion and suggestion: Medical abortion may not be a complete abortion, which means that the embryo may not be expelled at once, and residue may remain, so a second uterine curettage is required.

Bleeding after abortion usually lasts for 1 to 3 weeks. The general sign of a clean abortion is that the bleeding becomes less day by day. If the bleeding decreases and then increases, or does not decrease at all or gradually increases, it is abnormal.

What are the symptoms of unclean abortion?

Symptoms of unclean abortion

1. Nausea and dislike of greasy food.

2. If you experience lower abdominal pain and persistent vaginal bleeding, you should immediately go to a regular hospital for a gynecological examination and B-ultrasound.

3. Infection may occur. Experts recommend that it is best to go to the hospital for a follow-up visit after a non-surgical abortion. If the B-ultrasound determines that there is no residue in the uterus, then intrauterine infection should be considered, because the blood from the abortion is a good breeding ground for bacteria. If the condition is serious, there will be tenderness in the uterus and fever during gynecological examination.
