How many days after giving birth can you take a bath?

Some old people say that you cannot take a bath within one month after giving birth. This month is called the confinement period. During the confinement period, you are not allowed to touch cold water, eat spicy food, get out of bed to exercise, or take a bath. In fact, for women who have just given birth, if it was a natural birth, they can take a bath one week later, and if it was a caesarean section, they can take a bath three days later.

If you have a normal birth and no episiotomy wound, and you are in confinement during hot weather, then you can wash it after a week at the latest. As long as you keep warm when bathing and don't take too long, because childbirth may cause injuries to the genitals, it is best to take a shower. I think there is no problem.

If you had a caesarean section and have a wound on your belly, you can wash it a little later depending on the recovery of the wound, but you don't have to wait a full month. That would be too uncomfortable. I don't think it's necessary to be so rigid. I gave birth to my daughter naturally. It was June and the weather was hot. I was sweating a lot right after giving birth and felt very uncomfortable. I took a shower in the bathroom in the hospital on the third day. After I returned home, I only took a shower once every three to five days because I couldn't bear not to take a shower. You can choose a shorter time, just wash your hair, rinse your body and finish quickly, and dry your hair with a hair dryer. So far, I don’t think there are any side effects.

Because women consume physical strength and vitality during childbirth, and lose so much blood, their uterus is also damaged and needs to recover. It takes some time for the body to return to its pre-pregnancy state, about 42 days, which is called the postpartum period, commonly known as "confinement month."

During the confinement period, you should rest in bed more if you have nothing to do. Try not to go out unless there are special circumstances. Eat nutritious meals. Your family should be considerate and take good care of you. Keep warm and avoid colds to avoid getting sick. If the body is left with sequelae, it will be a lifelong illness; if the mood is bad, you will suffer from postpartum depression, which will seriously affect your physical and mental health. In short, being in good condition both physically and mentally will be more conducive to recovery.
