Is it possible to have a premature birth at seven months of pregnancy?

As we all know, it usually takes about ten months of pregnancy to give birth to a healthy baby. But there are always accidents in life. Many babies come out prematurely, even before ten months in the womb. These children are called premature babies. Some premature babies are born at seven months of pregnancy. These premature babies are very weak and need to be placed in an incubator. So can a baby born seven months prematurely survive?

Can a seven-month-old premature baby survive?

The survival rate of seven-month premature babies is generally 99.9%. As long as they are properly cared for, they can generally survive. Because premature babies are not full-term and do not receive adequate nutrients in the mother's body, they need to be cared for more carefully. Parents should feed their babies carefully and keep them warm. At the same time, they should prevent outsiders from contacting the babies to avoid infection with foreign germs. The baby's room should be kept quiet and clean.

1. Keep warm

The indoor temperature should be maintained at 20-25℃, the temperature of the quilt should be maintained at 30-32℃, and the windows in the room should be opened frequently to ventilate the room. Change diapers quickly to avoid letting your baby get cold. When the baby's weight is less than 2.5 kg, do not bathe him. You can use cooking oil to wipe the wrinkles of the baby's neck, armpits, thighs and other areas every 2-3 days. If the baby weighs more than 3 kg and drinks up to 100 ml of milk each time, he can be bathed like a healthy newborn.

2. Careful feeding

Premature babies gain weight quickly, so nutrition should be supplied in a timely manner, preferably with breastfeeding. When the baby is in the hospital, the mother can express milk and the nurse can feed it to the baby, and then the baby can be breastfed directly after returning home. The amount of milk can be determined according to the child's weight. Generally speaking, 150-180 ml of milk is needed per kilogram of body weight per day. A baby weighing 2.5 kg can be fed 350-450 ml per day. Feed 7-9 times a day or on demand.

3. Prevent infection

Except for the person who is specifically taking care of the child, it is best not to let anyone else enter the premature baby's room, and don't take the baby to show it to relatives or neighbors from outside. People who are dedicated to taking care of children should change into clean clothes and wash their hands when feeding the children or doing other things.

4. Keep quiet

The room of a premature baby should be kept quiet and clean. You should be gentle when entering the room. Changing diapers and feeding should also be done very gently and quickly. You should not make loud noises or other harsh noises to avoid scaring the baby.

Symptoms of cerebral palsy in premature infants

The early symptoms of cerebral palsy in premature infants mainly include feeding difficulties, uncoordinated sucking and swallowing, difficulty in nursing, frequent spitting up, and continued lack of weight gain. This is one of the early symptoms of cerebral palsy. As premature babies grow, they may experience the following symptoms:

1. Motor lag and reduced active movement: Normal children can lift their heads when lying prone and kick their legs when lying supine at 3 months old, but children with cerebral palsy rarely have these movements.

Normal children can actively reach out and touch objects when they are 4-5 months old, but children with cerebral palsy have very little upper limb activity.

2. Abnormal muscle tone: Children with cerebral palsy have lower or higher muscle tone than normal children.

3. Abnormal posture: Children with cerebral palsy often have their heads tilted back, fall backward when sitting at 6 months old, squeeze their legs together, and have difficulty in changing diapers, etc.

4. Abnormal reflexes: A normal child will have a hugging reflex when his head suddenly lowers (like a startled expression), which usually disappears after 6 months, but not in children with cerebral palsy. There are various other reflex abnormalities.

Simply put, cerebral palsy is a paralysis-like symptom caused by brain damage. When the infant's brain is not yet fully developed, if it is damaged by ischemia or hypoxia, it will cause brain damage and lead to motor dysfunction. Children with cerebral palsy will have varying degrees of motor dysfunction. Some children are limp all over and cannot sit or stand; some children have tight and stiff muscles and cannot walk. Children with tense and stiff muscles all over their body are the main symptom of cerebral palsy.
