Fear of cold during early pregnancy

Fear of cold during early pregnancy

Female pregnancy is a special physiological period in which a new life is conceived. Medically speaking, the pregnancy period refers to the first day of the last menstrual period before pregnancy to the completion of delivery. During this period, due to the growth of new life, mothers will experience a series of physiological symptoms different from those in the non-pregnant period. For example, protein often appears in the urine of pregnant women. Here, in the early stages of pregnancy, "Mom" is afraid of the cold. May I ask, is this a normal reaction? What should I do if it is abnormal?

Women in the early stages of pregnancy will be afraid of the cold. Their immunity and resistance will decrease after pregnancy, so they will be more afraid of the cold than usual and will be more likely to get sick than usual. Once they get sick, the severity of the illness will be twice as severe as usual. As the saying goes, "In the early stages of pregnancy, you are afraid of the cold, and in the later stages of pregnancy, you are afraid of the heat." It's easy to catch a cold in this alternating hot and cold weather. Therefore, women in the early stages of pregnancy must pay attention to keeping warm.

Experts say that in the first three months after pregnancy, the placenta in the abdomen is still in the initial stage of development, which will keep the body temperature of expectant mothers at a higher level, so pregnant women generally feel afraid of cold. After the early stages of pregnancy, the placenta will gradually develop, the mother's body temperature will return to normal, and the fear of cold will be alleviated. After the early stages of pregnancy, the amount of blood in the mother's body will increase, causing the body's heat to rise, which will manifest as not being afraid of cold in the later stages.

There is another important reason for being afraid of cold in early pregnancy, that is, the pregnant mother’s physical condition is relatively poor, or the nutrition during pregnancy is not enough, such as insufficient intake of carbohydrates, fats, and protein, which leads to the pregnant woman’s weak physique and fear of cold. From this point of view, some expectant mothers are not obviously afraid of cold in the early stages of pregnancy because they have good physical fitness.

There is another reason for being afraid of the cold in early pregnancy - hypothyroidism. There are clinical examples of pregnant women suffering from endocrine disorders and low metabolism due to hypothyroidism.

No matter what the reason is that pregnant women are afraid of cold in the early stages of pregnancy, they must pay attention to keeping warm. In the early stages of pregnancy, they should pay special attention to adding or removing clothes, paying attention to rest, drinking plenty of water, and exercising appropriately to prevent catching a cold during pregnancy.

1. Keep warm, wear more pure cotton underwear, and avoid standing in windy places often.

2. Do some light exercise appropriately, such as walking, doing prenatal yoga, etc.

3. In terms of diet, you should eat more warming foods, such as brown sugar and ginger soup.

4. Adjust your mood, don’t worry too much, and ensure adequate sleep.

5. During pregnancy, you should eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, and nuts, such as apples, walnuts, etc.

6. Be sure to supplement enough folic acid to enhance the body's immunity.

7. Have regular prenatal checkups and seek prompt treatment from a doctor if you have any problems.
