Can I have milk if I have small breasts?

Every woman's breast size is different, which is related to many factors, such as genetic factors, acquired diet and many other reasons. Some women have always had small breasts. Such women will worry about one problem, that is, they are afraid of having no milk after giving birth. In fact, whether a woman has milk after giving birth has no direct relationship with the size of her breasts, so don't worry too much.

Can I have milk if I have small breasts?

Small breasts ≠ less milk!

In fact, there is no necessary connection between breast size and milk quantity. Breast size refers to the amount of fat inside the breast. Some people have large breasts, but they are mainly fat, with few breast cells and not necessarily much milk. On the contrary, some people have small breasts, but when they are pregnant, their breasts will be stimulated by large amounts of estrogen and progesterone, and their breasts will grow rapidly. Most of the enlarged tissue is mammary gland tissue, and the milk will also be sufficient. So women with small breasts don’t have to worry, it will not affect the secretion of milk in the future.

Does breast size affect milk supply?

Breast size has nothing to do with future milk production

A person's body shape is largely related to genetics, nutrition and physical exercise. The same is true for the degree of breast development. Breast size refers to the amount of fat inside the breasts and has nothing to do with the amount of milk produced in the future. Some people have large breasts, but their main structure is fat and connective tissue, with few mammary cells, so they may not produce much milk. On the contrary, some people's breasts are not big before pregnancy. During pregnancy, due to the stimulation of large amounts of estrogen and progesterone, their breasts will grow rapidly. Most of the enlarged tissue is mammary gland tissue, and the milk supply is sufficient. Therefore, if your breasts are small now, don't worry, it will not affect the secretion of milk in the future.

Factors that affect milk secretion:

(1) Breast development: Whether or not there is milk secretion and the amount of milk produced after delivery are determined by whether the mammary glands are fully developed. Experts' research has shown that every breast, regardless of size, has dozens of lobules and millions of mammary alveoli. Therefore, all pregnant women have the ability to lactate. Some people have large breasts and poorly developed mammary glands, with not many glandular cells; some people have small breasts, but have many mammary gland cells, which suddenly increase in size during breastfeeding and provide plenty of milk.

(2) Time of breastfeeding and number of breastfeedings: Some mothers have reduced milk secretion because they start breastfeeding too late or breastfeed too infrequently. Allowing the baby to suck the nipple irregularly and frequently as early as possible after birth is the driving force for stimulating milk secretion, and the number, intensity and duration of sucking are closely related to the amount of milk secreted. Milk is secreted as you suck, and the more you suck, the more milk you produce.

(3) Neurohumoral regulation: Some mothers are overly nervous and often in a state of anger, fear, sadness or anxiety, or are busy with housework and lack of sleep, all of which can reduce milk secretion. Therefore, if you want to have sufficient milk, you must always stay happy and relaxed. The nervous state and body fluids are closely related. Only when the nerves are relaxed can the body fluids flow smoothly and the milk will naturally be sufficient.
