What to eat to help expel lochia

After a normal birth, there will be some residue in the uterus. After the baby is born safely, these residues will flow out of the pregnant woman's vagina, which is called lochia. The discharge of lochia is a relatively normal phenomenon for postpartum women. Generally, the lochia will end three to four weeks after delivery, but many women also have the problem of lochia that lasts for a long time. So, if lochia does not stop, what foods can help eliminate it?

1. Hawthorn

Hawthorn contains a large amount of hawthorn acid and citric acid, which can promote salivation and quench thirst, disperse blood stasis and promote blood circulation. New mothers often suffer from loss of appetite, dry mouth and reduced food intake due to excessive fatigue after giving birth. If they eat some hawthorn properly, it can not only increase appetite, aid digestion and increase food intake, which is not only beneficial for physical recovery and feeding the baby, but also can use the effect of hawthorn to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis to discharge blood stasis in the uterine cavity, expel lochia and relieve abdominal pain.

2. Ejiao

Donkey-hide gelatin has the effects of nourishing blood and stopping bleeding. It has a good effect on uterine bleeding after consumption. Mothers with heavy lochia after delivery can eat donkey-hide gelatin to promote the early discharge of lochia. In addition, donkey-hide gelatin also has a good effect on lochia caused by postpartum women with insufficient yin blood.

3. Lotus root

Eating lotus root can help postpartum women promote blood circulation and stop bleeding. If a woman has a lot of lochia after giving birth, she can eat it in moderation. She can make soup or stir-fry it.

4. Brown sugar

Brown sugar water not only has the effect of replenishing blood, but also can help excrete dirt from the body. Mothers who have excessive lochia after childbirth can drink brown sugar water in moderation. However, you should not drink too much brown sugar water, so as not to have a counterproductive effect.

5. Shenghua Tang

Shenghua Tang is a postpartum prescription used by many women to disperse blood stasis and stop bleeding. It is suitable for women who experience symptoms such as abdominal pain and retained lochia after delivery. Within 7 days after delivery, drink Shenghua Tang 5-6 times a day. For normal delivery, drink it for about a week, and for caesarean section mothers drink it for about two weeks. It can help the lochia be discharged from the body and allow the uterus to recover as soon as possible.

6. Pork liver

Pork liver helps to discharge lochia and replenish blood, and is the best solid food choice after caesarean section. At the same time, eggs and milk are prohibited within one week after cesarean section to avoid bloating, and dark-pigmented foods should be avoided to prevent the scar from darkening.

7. Motherwort

You can take motherwort after delivery, such as motherwort paste, which can promote uterine contraction, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and speed up the elimination of lochia. If your body allows, you can add appropriate exercise, which can better help your body recover.
