Why does an unexpected pregnancy occur?

There are many cases of unexpected pregnancies in life, especially for young people who are in love but not yet married. This is because men and women of that age group have higher sexual needs, but they don’t care about contraceptive measures, so unexpected pregnancies are common. Therefore, if you don’t want children when having sex, you must take contraceptive measures. So why do unexpected pregnancies happen?

Even among women who use contraceptive methods, many still experience unwanted pregnancies. Why do so many women who use contraception still have unwanted pregnancies?

(1) Failure to use contraceptives according to the instructions. If you take birth control pills, you need to take them at the same time every day, and you need to follow all the instructions on the pills. If you use a condom, then you need to make sure you are using it correctly and you must make sure that the condom is of good quality. If a cervical cap is used, you must make sure your doctor is placing the "cap" correctly over your cervix. If you use an IUD, you need to use it strictly according to your doctor's instructions and check the correct position of the IUD every month.

(2) Failure to consistently use contraceptive methods. In order to achieve the best contraceptive effect, contraceptive methods must be used consistently. If you take oral contraceptives, your chances of conceiving go up if you forget to take just one pill. Barrier contraceptive tools, such as condoms and uterine rings, must be used consistently to be effective. Women who participate in family planning must use contraceptives accurately and consistently, otherwise contraception may not be successful. Because, pregnancy can occur with just one unprotected sex act.

(3) The condom breaks before sexual intercourse. About 2% to 5% of condoms will break during use. Typically, this is due to improper use. For example, not using hydrophilic lubricant, or small cuts caused by jewelry or nails. Condoms that are past their expiration date, not stored properly, or damaged before or after delivery can all cause condoms to fail to prevent pregnancy. If spermicides are used together with condoms, they can reduce unwanted pregnancies caused by condom failure.

(4) Taking antibiotics while using birth control pills. It has been scientifically proven that antibiotics can reduce the level of hormonal steroids, which are components of birth control pills, in the blood. Women who are accustomed to using oral contraceptives should use an alternative form of contraception when they start taking antibiotics.

(5) Naively believing that conception is not possible during menstruation or the safe period, and therefore attempting unprotected sex. Successful conception usually occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle. However, some women get pregnant unexpectedly during their menstrual period or during their safe period. Believing that you cannot conceive during your menstrual period or safe period will increase the chances of an unwanted pregnancy. In addition, it also increases the possibility of contracting sexually transmitted diseases or other infections. Unless you only have one sexual partner for a long time, you must use condoms every time to reduce the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and reduce the possibility of damaging fertility or even life.
