Symptoms of milk retention:

The common symptom of milk retention is the discovery of a new lump in the breast accompanied by symptoms such as pain.

So what are the causes of milk retention?

1. Mommy’s qi and blood are weak, and the source of energy is insufficient.

Milk is produced by the mother's Qi and blood. If the mother's Qi and blood are weak, and the childbirth causes blood loss and Qi loss, or if the spleen and stomach are weak, Qi and blood are insufficient to produce milk, resulting in less milk after delivery, or the milk is unstable and cannot be discharged in time.

2. The mother's liver is out of balance and milk stagnation occurs.

If the parturient is depressed, or has endocrine disorders after childbirth, unstable emotions, liver depression and qi stagnation, poor blood circulation, blocked meridians, blocked milk channels, and blocked milk flow, the milk cannot be secreted and the milk is less and less, and stagnant;

3. Too much milk.

Mothers with a lot of milk will still have a lot of milk after feeding their babies, which will accumulate in the breasts. This often causes swelling and pain, high local skin temperature, pain when pressed, and slowly lumps with unclear boundaries will appear.

4. Breast hypoplasia or breast disease.

5. Improper diet, eating milk-producing foods too early, or eating cold foods.

What should I do if I have milk retention after giving birth?

The most common method used by lactation consultants on the market is to use their fingers to push the milk to force it to flow downstream. The goal of this operation is to be error-free. But sometimes due to the operator's lack of experience and excessive force, it often causes some side effects. Trauma to the breast may even lead to breast abscess. This is not worth it.

How to judge the disease progression:

When symptoms of milk stasis appear, use first-tier treatment measures as soon as possible. If conditions permit, the second-tier treatment measures can also be carried out at the same time. Observe for 24 hours, and if the condition improves, continue until complete relief. If you still feel sick after 24 hours, you may need to see a doctor for some antibiotics.

It should be emphasized that some milk stasis may be complicated by bacterial infection, and such patients may need antibiotics to cure. But not all patients will have bacterial infections. In this regard, it is recommended that when you find a painful lump on the breast and feel uncomfortable all over the body.
