What to check at 17 weeks of pregnancy

What to check at 17 weeks of pregnancy

For most women, pregnancy is a wonderful thing. In order to have a healthy and smart baby, strict check-ups are required after pregnancy, and the items for each weekly check-up are also different. So what items should be checked during the 17th week of pregnancy? It is understood that 17 weeks is just the beginning of the second trimester, and there are more and more items that need to be checked, so pregnant women should be prepared.

The key points of the 17-week prenatal check-up are to pay attention to the following aspects. First of all, you should pay attention to the lateral fetal movements and learn to count the fetal movements. Each time you measure the fetal movements, you should count them for one hour continuously. Then, calculate the number of fetal movements in twelve hours and provide the doctor with the recorded number. At this time, a three-dimensional color ultrasound examination can be done to check for deformities and four eugenics items, to check whether the fetus is healthy and developing normally.

What tests should be done at 17 weeks of pregnancy?

Weight: Weight control during pregnancy is very important. It is related to high blood pressure and diabetes during pregnancy, as well as the growth of stretch marks and postpartum recovery.

Blood pressure: Gestational hypertension is a common high-risk pregnancy and must be checked at every prenatal check-up. Blood pressure values are expressed as "systolic pressure/diastolic pressure".

Obstetric examination: Understand whether there are any abnormalities in the soft birth canal and reproductive organs in the pelvic cavity, and make an early estimate of the delivery situation.

Pregnancy consultation: You can consult your doctor about any pregnancy-related issues.

Urine test: helps monitor the kidney condition of pregnant women. It generally includes 14 items such as urine volume, urine color, acid-base reaction, specific gravity, and transparency.

Ultrasound fetal malformation screening: Group B Streptococcus can cause neonatal sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis, and even death. This test can detect whether a pregnant woman is infected with Group B Streptococcus.

1. Down syndrome screening results

After getting the test results, pay attention to the data. If there is anything you don’t understand, ask the attending physician on the spot. You should also find out whether there are any risks, what you need to pay attention to in the future, etc.

2. Amniocentesis

If the Down syndrome screening result is positive, and the pregnant mother is over 35 years old (the doctor may ask for the test at 35 years old), or the pregnant mother has a family history of genetic disorders, she should have an amniocentesis this week.

If the doctor does not require it and you are still worried, you can do some safer and more reliable examinations under the doctor's advice.

3. Oral problems during pregnancy

During pregnancy, some pregnant women may experience symptoms such as loose teeth, congested or swollen gums, and some women may even have increased saliva and drooling. Although these problems will disappear after delivery, they will still cause discomfort to mothers during this period.
