Bleeding at 18 weeks of pregnancy

Bleeding at 18 weeks of pregnancy

Pregnant women need to be cared for at home. Of course, pregnant women themselves should be adequately prepared whether they are at work or going out to avoid accidents. The entire pregnancy period is about 40 weeks and is divided into early pregnancy, mid pregnancy and late pregnancy. The fetus is relatively safe in the second trimester, but accidents cannot be ruled out. Some pregnant women experience bleeding at 18 weeks of pregnancy, which requires sufficient attention.

Generally, pregnant women will no longer experience bleeding after becoming pregnant, but some pregnant women also have a small amount of bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy, which is also normal. But 18 weeks of pregnancy is the second trimester. Is it normal to bleed at this time? What causes bleeding at 18 weeks of pregnancy? Don't take bleeding during the 18th week of pregnancy lightly, and make sure to find out the cause of the bleeding. Common causes of bleeding during late pregnancy include:

1. Placenta previa: This happens when the placenta is located in the lower part of the uterus, partially or completely blocking the cervix. This is quite rare in late pregnancy. Although placenta previa bleeding is painless, it is a cause for concern.

2. Placental abruption: In one percent of pregnancies, the placenta will peel off from the uterine wall. Placental abruption is very dangerous for both the mother and the baby.

3. Uterine rupture: In some rare cases, the scar caused by caesarean section may rupture during the next delivery of the pregnant woman: uterine rupture will threaten the life of the fetus and the mother, and the pregnant woman needs to undergo a caesarean section immediately.

4. Vasa previa: This condition is also very rare. Vasa previa is very dangerous for the fetus because it can easily cause fetal blood vessel rupture and lead to death.

5. Premature birth: Vaginal bleeding in late pregnancy may indicate that your body has begun to prepare for delivery. In the days and weeks before delivery, the mucus plug may pass through the vagina, bringing with it a small amount of blood. If bleeding symptoms occur before 37 weeks, call your doctor right away because you may be going into premature labor.

6. Cervical or vaginal injuries, polyps or cancer may cause bleeding in late pregnancy.

If you have bleeding symptoms at 18 weeks of pregnancy, you must tell your doctor. Bleeding has various reasons, and it is difficult to judge the type of bleeding and whether it is serious based only on the color and amount of bleeding. Therefore, when a pregnant woman experiences bleeding, she should not judge herself but go to the hospital for examination in time. Sometimes there is blood mixed in the urine. Please pay attention to it. For example, if it is brown, khaki or pink, it is a sign of bleeding. In addition, whether pregnancy bleeding is accompanied by other symptoms such as abdominal pain is also a reference indicator. Therefore, it is crucial for women to conduct detailed examinations in a timely manner!
