Fibroids are a common type of tumor. Among most patients, the incidence rate is higher in women. Most women are diagnosed with fibroids of varying sizes in their breasts when they are in their teens. They have undergone several operations over the years. Early-detected fibroids are generally benign, and are not considered dangerous if discovered before pregnancy. But what should I do if a 3cm fibroid is found during the fourth month of pregnancy? When it comes to desmoid tumors, everyone feels unfamiliar. Especially when it comes to the relationship between fibroma, desmoid tumor and fibrosarcoma, many people are easily confused and even think that they are the same disease with just different names. In fact, although these three diseases differ by only one letter, they are worlds apart. Although fibroma, desmoid tumor, and fibrosarcoma are all diseases caused by excessive proliferation of tissue cells, their degree of malignancy is completely different. Among them, fibrosarcoma is the most malignant of the three diseases. What is called "sarcoma" in medicine is actually a malignant tumor like cancer. Both desmoid tumors and fibromas are benign tumors, but desmoid tumors are more malignant than fibromas. Because fibroids are simply benign tumors, there is basically nothing to worry about after surgical removal; however, patients with desmoid tumors still need to continue to pay attention to recurrence after surgery. It is worth noting that some people previously believed that desmoid tumors were a type of low-grade malignant tumor, which is actually wrong. Because desmoid tumors do not metastasize. Therefore, desmoid tumor is a benign tumor, or it can be understood as a tumor between benign and malignant, that is, a borderline tumor. So, will desmoid tumors turn into fibrosarcomas? It is undeniable that this possibility does exist. However, the chance of desmoid tumors becoming malignant is very low, less than 1%. Generally speaking, repeated surgeries that stimulate the tumor or radiotherapy may cause desmoid tumors to become malignant and lead to the occurrence of fibrosarcoma. In general, there is a clear dividing line between "good" and "bad" fibrosarcoma and fibroma and desmoid tumor. It’s just that fibromas are far away from this dividing line, while desmoid tumors are closer to this dividing line. If desmoid tumors are repeatedly stimulated, they may cross into the camp of fibrosarcoma. |
