Can I eat duck eggs during confinement?

Duck eggs are a food suitable for people of all ages. It can be said that all normal people can eat duck eggs, including postpartum women. However, it is recommended that mothers should not eat too much at one time. In addition, middle-aged and elderly people, children, or patients who are taking levodopa or have lung cough diseases or spleen yang deficiency should not eat duck eggs to avoid causing unnecessary health problems. So what should you pay attention to when eating duck eggs during confinement?

Can pregnant women eat duck eggs?

Postpartum women can eat duck eggs, but not too many. In addition, the following groups of people should avoid or reduce the consumption of duck eggs:

1. Middle-aged and elderly people should not eat too much or for a long time. The fat content of duck eggs is higher than the protein content, and the cholesterol content of duck eggs is also high, containing about 1522 mg per 100 grams. If middle-aged and elderly people eat too much or for a long time, it can easily aggravate and accelerate the hardening and aging of the cardiovascular system.

2. It is not advisable to eat undercooked duck eggs. Ducks are susceptible to salmonella, and the bacteria in their bodies can penetrate into the forming duck eggs. This bacteria can only be killed after a certain period of high temperature treatment, so duck eggs must be boiled in boiling water for at least 15 minutes before they can be eaten. Do not take it out immediately after cooking, leave it in boiling water and let it cool down slowly. If you eat undercooked duck eggs, it can easily cause disease, so it is not suitable to eat them.

3. Do not eat when taking levodopa. When taking levodopa, avoid eating foods high in protein, because foods high in protein will produce a large amount of amino acids in the intestines that hinder the absorption of levodopa, thereby reducing the efficacy of the drug.

4. It is not advisable to eat salted duck eggs when taking the antipyretic and analgesic drugs aminopyrine, somifenac, and chlorpromazine. Salted duck eggs contain a certain amount of nitroso compounds. When taking antipyretic and analgesic drugs, the aminopyrine in the drugs can react with the nitroso compounds in the salted eggs to generate carcinogenic nitrosamines, which can easily cause cancer.

5. Children should not eat too much. Research has confirmed that children's ADHD is related to excessive intake of amino acids. It is mainly due to excessive intake of animal protein. Although children in their growth and developmental stages need more protein, generally a daily intake of about 3 grams per kilogram of body weight is sufficient to maintain protein metabolic balance in the body. Excessive consumption will not only affect the gastrointestinal digestive function, but the protein decomposition products will also have certain adverse effects, causing children to be irritable and restless. Therefore, children should not eat too much high-protein foods such as eggs.

6. People with insufficient spleen yang, diarrhea due to cold and dampness, and qi stagnation and fullness after eating should avoid eating it. It is not suitable for consumption during illness.

7. Patients with nephritis should avoid eating preserved eggs; cancer patients should avoid eating them; people with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis and fatty liver should also avoid eating them.
