Pictures of deformed fetus after taking contraceptive pills

The main ingredient of birth control pills is the estrogen levonorgestrel, which works mainly by inhibiting ovulation in the uterus and ovaries, blocking the fusion of sperm and egg, and preventing the combination of sperm and egg in the uterus to implant the embryo. Its usage is to take one tablet (0.75 mg) as soon as possible within 72 hours after sexual intercourse, and take the second tablet 12 hours later; or take two tablets (1.5 mg) together. Currently, there are 1.5 mg per tablet of birth control pills on the market. It only needs to be taken once. If vomiting occurs within two hours after taking it, you should take it again immediately.

The success rate of birth control pills is not 100%

Why do women still get pregnant after taking birth control pills? Did they take counterfeit or inferior products? In fact, the contraceptive effectiveness of this kind of medicine is not 100%, but around 80%. Therefore, there is still a 20% chance of pregnancy after taking this kind of medicine.

Relevant studies have shown that babies born to mothers who take birth control pills are similar in weight and height to babies born to mothers who do not take the pills. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of cesarean section indications, number of fetal deaths, and birth defects. Therefore, the researchers believe that women who have failed to take birth control pills should not choose to terminate the pregnancy because they are worried that the fetus will be deformed or have other abnormalities.

In most cases, the cause of fetal abnormalities is related to long-term use of growth hormone, and is not the result of short-term use of small doses of growth hormone. If the contraceptive pill is taken during the menstrual period, it will generally not cause a significant impact on the fetus and can be considered, but strict eugenics screening should be carried out during pregnancy. If birth control pills are taken more than 4 weeks after the previous menstrual period, the possibility of fetal malformation is relatively high. From the perspective of eugenics, young women in good health may choose not to take them for the time being; older women who have difficulty getting pregnant may consider having this child.

Aren’t you afraid that the drugs may cause fetal deformity?

Experts explained: "It usually takes 7 to 9 days from intercourse to embryo implantation, which is a sign of pregnancy. The pill is taken on the second day, when the sperm and egg have successfully combined and are traveling in the fallopian tubes. The fetal uterus has not yet developed, so there is no need to worry about the male characteristics of the female baby. Therefore, there is almost no impact on the baby."

How to determine whether the medicine affects the fetus?

Gynecologists suggest that in clinical medicine, the effect of drugs on the fetus is mainly manifested as an "all or nothing situation", that is, if the drug has an adverse effect on the fetus, the fetus will stop growing or have a miscarriage; if the drug has no effect on the fetus, the fetus will be completely normal and will not affect subsequent growth.

Therefore, pregnant mothers are advised to check B-ultrasound after 50-60 days of pregnancy to confirm the baby's fetal heartbeat and embryo. If everything is normal, the fetus will survive healthily. If bleeding occurs and B-ultrasound confirms fetal arrest, then abortion should be performed as soon as possible instead of restoring the fetus, as this is a natural replacement process.

Can I keep the baby if all birth control pills are unsuccessful?

Unless you have definitely taken medicines that are prohibited during pregnancy, do not make a hasty decision to terminate the pregnancy. You should take things as they come and act according to circumstances. Because even if you are worried about any problems, you can still eliminate them through diagnosis and treatment. Today's pregnancy examination technology is already very mature, and the baby's development can be understood through B-ultrasound, amniocentesis and other various examination methods. If any problems are detected in the baby's development, there is still a chance to terminate the pregnancy. There is no need to sentence a life to a suspended death sentence at will.
