Most people will experience more or less bleeding after having an IUD inserted. The compression of the endometrium by the contraceptive ring can cause local congestion, edema, and even necrosis, forming ulcers and bleeding in the compressed area. After the contraceptive ring is placed in the uterine cavity, a small amount of vaginal bleeding may occur in the short term, which usually lasts for 3-7 days and then stops naturally. The main cause of vaginal bleeding after IUD insertion is that the mechanical pressure of the ring damages the endometrium, causing local congestion and edema, and capillaries are eroded and damaged, resulting in bleeding. If the size and model of the ring do not match the size and shape of the uterine cavity, or if the ring is obviously deformed, bleeding will be aggravated. In addition, after the contraceptive ring damages the endometrium, it causes the release of a series of biochemical mediators, which hinder blood coagulation, dilate blood vessels and increase permeability, all of which increase the amount of bleeding.

Do I need to remove the ring? It is recommended to go to the hospital first to check the position and shape of the IUD in the uterine cavity, and whether the IUD is twisted, deformed, or embedded in the uterine wall. If the above situation occurs, the ring should be removed and other contraceptive methods should be used. After 1 to 2 months, when the endometrium is repaired and healed, the IUD can be re-inserted.

Of course, if there is no abnormality in the shape and position of the IUD in the uterine cavity and other causes of bleeding are ruled out, hemostatic treatment can be carried out under the guidance of a doctor.
