What to do if the vulva is allergic, red, swollen and itchy

Vulvar itching is a common gynecological disease in women. It is redness, swelling and itching caused by vulvar allergies. The main causes are poor vulvar hygiene, substandard sanitary napkins or underwear, excessive sexual intercourse, and the indiscriminate use of cleaning drugs. Vulvar allergy is not only embarrassing, but if not dealt with in time it is likely to cause gynecological diseases, which will then be difficult to treat. So, what should I do if my vulva is allergic, red, swollen and itchy?

Causes of vulvar itching and swelling

1. Vulvar dryness: Excessive use of potassium permanganate solution for sitz baths and vulvar dryness in postmenopausal women can also cause vulvar itching, which is the main cause of vulvar itching.

2. Various diseases of the vulva: such as vulvar eczema, vulvar hypopigmentation or leukoplakia, vulvar ringworm, vulvar neurodermatitis, vulvar condyloma, etc. can cause vulvar itching.

3. Irritation from secretions: Inflammation of the reproductive tract caused by fungi, gonococci, Trichomonas, and bacteria, which produces abnormal leucorrhea, as well as stimulation from urine (thin urine, urinary incontinence) and feces (thin feces) can cause vulvar itching.

4. Chemicals and drugs stimulate local itching: such as alkaline soaps, condoms, sanitary napkins, synthetic underwear, etc., which directly contact the local area and stimulate itching.

5. Systemic diseases. Systemic diseases mainly include diabetes, anemia, leukemia, polycythemia, skin diseases, hepatobiliary diseases (such as jaundice), kidney diseases, lymphoma, etc. In addition to general itching, vulvar itching is often accompanied. According to statistics, 3.4% of 500 diabetic patients had localized itching, mainly vulvar itching.

6. Drug rash: "Fixed drug rash" caused by women with allergic constitution taking sulfonamides or other drugs often occurs at the junction of the skin and mucous membrane of the vulva, causing local itching. Vulvar itching may also occur if allergic reactions and contact dermatitis occur after using drugs for vaginal douching or vaginal implantation.

7. Skin diseases of the vulva: The skin lesions of tinea cruris often extend to the vulva, causing severe local itching. The local itching caused by vulvar eczema neurodermatitis is more severe, and vulvar leukoplakia also often causes local itching.

8. Mental factors: When you are worried, depressed, nervous, or irritable, you will often feel itchy vulva, which becomes more itchy the more you scratch it.

9. Dietary factors: Lack of iron, riboflavin, vitamin A, vitamin E, fat, etc. in food causes dryness, flaking and itching of the vulvar skin.

10. Malnutrition of the vulva, varicose veins of the vulva, and itching and swelling of the vulva.

11. Rectovaginal fistula, anal fistula, and stool contamination.

12. Inflammatory stimulation, such as trichomoniasis, candidal vaginitis, and chronic cervicitis, which causes itching and swelling of the vulva due to the stimulation of inflammatory secretions.

13. Symptoms of vulvar itching and swelling caused by systemic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, vitamin deficiency, icteric hepatitis, patient reactions such as drug allergy, urticaria, and topical use of contraceptive tools may cause vulvar itching.

14. Inflammatory stimulation, such as trichomoniasis vaginitis (trichomoniasis vaginitis), candidal vaginitis (candidal vaginitis), and vulvar itching and swelling caused by inflammatory secretions during chronic cervicitis

15. Urinary fistula, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infection secretions, urine irritation.

Adverse effects

The vulva is the first gateway for women. If it is not well guarded, it will cause many related diseases. In particular, the uterus is a detoxification system unique to women, so women must take good care of it.

symptom

Vulvar itching and swelling are mostly located in the clitoris and labia minora, and may also affect the labia majora, perineum and even perianal skin lesions. It is often paroxysmal, but can also be continuous, usually worsening at night. Unexplained vulvar itching and swelling usually only occurs in women of childbearing age or after menopause, often affecting the entire vulva, but may also be limited to a certain part or one side of the vulva. Although the itching is very painful and even unbearable, the local skin and mucous membrane appear normal, or there are only scratches due to excessive scratching.

Treatment

Related notes:

1. Fumigation and washing medicine cannot be taken orally.

2. When the outside temperature is high, the fumigation solution should generally not be left overnight to prevent it from deteriorating.

3. Make all preparations to ensure smooth treatment.

4. During the treatment period, you should get adequate rest, avoid spicy food and overwork.

5. After fumigation, wipe the affected area dry with a soft towel and avoid wind.

6. The temperature of the medicine solution should be appropriate, not too high to avoid burns, nor too low to affect the efficacy. Once a burn occurs, treatment should be suspended and drugs such as gentian violet should be applied to the wound to prevent infection.

7. The amount of water added to decoction should be determined according to the situation. It should not be too much or too little. Too much water will result in too low concentration, while too little water will result in insufficient heat, both of which will affect the efficacy.

8. Pay attention to the treatment of the primary disease, keep the vulva clean and dry, and do not wash it too frequently with soap. Avoid scratching, alcohol and irritating food; to prevent the consequences of vulvar itching from affecting one's life, women should avoid scratching, rubbing, and washing with hot water; appropriately use sedatives, safety drugs, and antihistamines to adjust emotions, reduce anxiety and tension, and relieve itching; use antipruritic drugs topically.
