Can I do moxibustion when I have my period?

No matter which woman you are, you must pay attention to relevant matters when you have your period. There are many things you cannot do during these days, such as washing your face or taking a bath with cold water, eating spicy and irritating foods, especially cold foods, doing strenuous exercise, etc. Now many people choose to maintain their health through moxibustion, so can you do moxibustion when you have your period?

Can I do moxibustion when I have my period?

Moxibustion has the function of health care, and it has a history of thousands of years in China. Moxibustion can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, relax muscles and tendons, and it can also regulate the body and treat dysmenorrhea and other diseases. So can I use moxibustion during menstruation?

Experts say that whether moxibustion can be used during menstruation depends on individual circumstances:

1. Some people have heavier menstrual flow, so moxibustion can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and dredge meridians and collaterals. If moxibustion is performed at this time, it can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and cause heavier menstrual flow.

2. If the menstrual flow is relatively light, you can do moxibustion during the menstrual period. It can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, dredge meridians and collaterals, and expel some congestion in the body, thus achieving the purpose of curing the disease.

3. When using moxibustion, it must be tailored to the individual. It cannot be said for sure that moxibustion cannot be done during menstruation, nor can it be said that moxibustion can be done during menstruation. It depends on your own situation. Moxibustion during menstruation can sometimes have a very good effect. By increasing the amount of blood discharged during menstruation, it can help the body expel waste, garbage, some blood clots, etc.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that dysmenorrhea is mostly caused by poor circulation of Qi and blood. If it is dysmenorrhea, moxibustion can be used to relieve the pain. So which acupoints should be moxibustioned for dysmenorrhea? Let’s take a look.

What acupoints are used for moxibustion for dysmenorrhea

The method of moxibustion to treat dysmenorrhea is to select Zhongji, Guanyuan, Qihai, Sanyinjiao and other acupoints. When selecting the acupoints on the abdomen, you can lie on your back, place ginger slices about 3 mm in thickness on the abdominal acupoints, take a small amount of moxa and put it on the ginger slices, and then ignite it and apply moxibustion.

If you feel the temperature is too high, you can move slightly to avoid scalding your skin. For Sanyinjiao, you can use the hanging moxibustion method, starting a few days before the start of menstruation and continuing for a few days after the menstruation stops, moxibustion each acupoint for 20 to 30 minutes.
