Normal color of menstruation

Normal color of menstruation

The normal color of menstruation is dark red in the first two days, then it becomes lighter and there are no blood clots. The color of menstrual blood can reflect the health of the body. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, darker colors indicate excess symptoms, while lighter colors indicate deficiency symptoms. A dark black color indicates that the body is cold. Menstrual blood is red in color and thick in texture, which means that there is heat in the body, etc. Next, let’s analyze the color of menstruation in detail.

Menstrual blood is a mixture of blood and some shed endometrial lining, cervical mucus and vaginal secretions. The color of menstrual blood is dark, slightly sticky, and not easy to coagulate into blood clots. If you look closely, you will see small and thin fragments. Sometimes blood clots or black blood appear.

Introduction

Menstrual blood is different from normal blood, but there are still similarities between menstrual blood and normal blood. Therefore, girls should not think that menstrual blood is dirty and deal with it casually. Instead, they should pay attention to hygiene during menstruation to avoid harming their bodies.

The amount of menstrual blood at menarche varies. After menstruation becomes regular, the total volume of each menstrual period is generally 50 to 60 ml.

Normal traffic

Normal flow: In the early stages of your period, a heavier flow is normal and you may need to use a high-absorbency sanitary napkin or tampon. The flow should gradually taper off over the next few days. Women who take birth control pills generally have less flow because the endometrium becomes thinner and the bleeding caused by shedding is reduced. The average woman will experience one or two months of drastic increase in flow in a year. This is because you did not ovulate on time that month. If a woman misses ovulation in a certain month, the estrogen in the body will be over-secreted, causing the endometrium to thicken and increase menstrual bleeding. This is a normal phenomenon.

Many women are concerned about the color and viscosity of menstrual blood. These issues vary from person to person. From bright red to dull brown are all within the normal range. Blood will coagulate before being discharged, so it is normal to have clots in menstrual blood.

Abnormal traffic

Excessive menstrual bleeding: Using up a pack of extra-absorbent sanitary napkins or tampons within an hour is considered excessive menstrual bleeding. The most common cause of this symptom is iron deficiency anemia, which is usually manifested as fatigue, pale complexion, and shortness of breath. Your doctor will first test you for iron deficiency anemia. Once confirmed, you can improve your symptoms by supplementing iron. In addition, it should be noted that uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis and thyroid dysfunction may also cause excessive menstrual bleeding.

Too little menstrual blood: The menstrual cycle is basically normal, but the menstrual flow is significantly reduced, or even just a few drops; or the menstrual period is shortened to less than two days, and the menstrual flow is also little, both of which are called "oligomenorrhea".

Causes of scanty menstruation: scanty menstruation is often associated with late menstruation and is often accompanied by weight gain. If it occurs during adolescence or childbearing age, it may develop into amenorrhea, and if it occurs during menopause, it often leads to menopause. Small menstrual flow may be due to dysfunctional uterine bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome, premature ovarian failure, or uterine adhesions after abortion.

Menstrual blood odor

The reason why menstruation produces an odor is mainly because it is mixed with blood, secretions from the endometrium and sebaceous glands, and sweat, so there is a more obvious odor. The best way to improve this situation is to improve your own hygiene first. During adolescence, female hormone secretion is stronger and the sebaceous glands secrete more vigorously. In addition to being more prone to acne, the lower body is also more likely to secrete oil, resulting in a slippery feeling. At this time, local cleansing is necessary frequently. The situation will improve effectively if you wash your genitals with clean water at least once a day, or clean them with a wet towel twice a day.
