What are the causes of anal fissures in women?

Anal fissure is a relatively common anorectal disease. Many people suffer from anal fissure in life. In fact, the proportion of women suffering from anal fissure is also relatively high. One of the reasons why women suffer from anal fissure is caused during childbirth. Due to the particularity of the affected area of anal fissure, effective treatment must be carried out when suffering from anal fissure, otherwise it may cause more serious consequences.

Reasons why women may suffer from anal fissures:

1. Anal fissure caused by childbirth:

During childbirth, women often exert too much force, causing tears in the anal canal and perineum, resulting in pain and bleeding, and thus anal fissures. After pregnancy, activity decreases accordingly, intestinal motility weakens, and constipation is very likely to occur. Dry and hard feces can easily scratch the skin of the anal canal and cause local infection.

2. Anal fissures caused by special periods:

Some unmarried women are also more prone to anal fissures, especially during the menstrual period. This may be because they did not get enough rest and pay attention to menstrual hygiene during the menstrual period, which caused local inflammation of the anus and led to anal fissures.

3. Causes of anal fissure in women caused by local infection:

Compared with men, women prefer to be "still" rather than "active", especially young and middle-aged women. Their activity level decreases accordingly after pregnancy, which causes weakened intestinal motility and makes constipation very likely. The dry and hard feces after constipation can easily scratch the skin of the anal canal and cause local infection, which can easily lead to anal fissures.

What are the symptoms of anal fissure in women?

Symptom 1: Pain

Pain is the main symptom of anal fissure, which is characterized by cyclical pain during defecation. When you feel the urge to defecate, the anus dilates and pain begins. When you defecate, the feces rush out of the fissure, and you immediately feel a burning or knife-like pain in the anus, which is called defecation pain. The pain stops or eases a few minutes or 10 minutes after defecation, which is called the intermittent period. Then, due to the spasm and contraction of the anal sphincter, the patient feels the severe tearing pain again.

Symptom 2: Blood in the stool

Anal fissure causes irregular bleeding in the stool, which is related to defecation. This is because the wound surface of the anal fissure is scratched or torn by dry and hard feces. The nature of blood in the stool caused by anal fissure is generally bloody. A few patients will drip a few drops of blood during bowel movements. The larger and deeper the fissure, the more bleeding there will be.

Symptom 3: Constipation

Constipation is one of the causes of anal fissure and also a sequela of anal fissure. Constipation may cause the excretion of hard feces, which may tear the anal valves and enlarged anal papillae, or damage the anal sinuses, forming anal fissures. After anal fissure occurs, patients are afraid of pain during defecation and dare not defecate, which often causes constipation. Constipation can aggravate anal fissures, forming a vicious cycle.

Symptom 4: Itching

Patients with anal fissures often experience anal itching and discomfort due to the outflow of anal secretions, which irritate the anal skin.

Symptom 5: Anal fissure pentalogy

If anal fissure is not treated promptly in the early stage, three symptoms will appear, including anal canal ulcers, hypertrophy of anal papillae, and sentinel piles. If it continues to develop, anal sinusitis and anal fistula may also occur, which are collectively called the "anal fissure pentad" together with the first three symptoms.
