What should you pay attention to when cervical mucus plug flows out?

Many pregnant women need to pay attention to many things in the later stages of pregnancy because they are about to give birth. At this time, when the cervical mucus plug flows out, it means that the pregnant woman will give birth soon. When this happens, pregnant women should not be nervous and should pay attention to some symptoms. When cervical mucus plug flows out, there are some things that need attention.

1. Labor pains

1. Cause: Labor pains are the contractions of the uterus of pregnant women before giving birth. You can feel the uterus contracting regularly and expanding more than six times a day, indicating that labor pains have begun.

2. Reminder: Labor pains can be divided into false pains and real pains. False pain starts to occur 3 to 4 weeks before delivery, without regularity, because walking will improve the pain. The pain is limited to the lower abdomen and groin, rarely extends to around the back, and the cervix has not yet dilated. True pain occurs at the beginning of delivery, with regularity and intense pain that cannot be improved by walking. The pain is in the abdomen, back, and coccyx, and there is a strong urge to defecate. The cervix gradually dilates due to the contraction of the uterus.

2. Seeing red

1. Cause: Because the mucus plug at the cervical opening falls off and the capillaries rupture, a small amount of pink or red, viscous secretion mixed with a small amount of blood, mucous leucorrhea, appears.

2. Reminder: Usually appears about 1 to 2 days before delivery.

Water breaking

1. Cause: The rupture of the membrane that wraps the fetus causes the amniotic fluid to flow out, which is called rupture of membranes. It is slightly sticky, colorless and similar to urine.

2. Reminder: Generally, labor pains come first and then water breaking. If water breaking occurs, try to lie flat and go to the hospital as soon as possible to prepare for delivery.

3. Others

1. The baby falls down, the pressure around the stomach is relieved, there is a heaviness in the lower abdomen, frequent urination, and no urinary sensation even after urination.

2. Increased mucous leucorrhea.

3. Irregular bloating and pain in the abdomen. If the above signs appear, it means that production is approaching.

4. Tips after the cervical mucus plug flows out

1. Reasons:

As labor approaches, if your cervix begins to dilate, you may pass your mucus plug, a small amount of thick mucus that has sealed your cervical canal for the past nine months. The plug may come out all at once in one piece, or it may come out as increased discharge over several days.

2. Suggestions:

This mucus may be tinged with blood (it may be brown, pink, or red), hence the term "bloody show." Or it may affect the mucus plug during the examination, causing you to see bloody discharge, even if you won't give birth for a few days. In either case, if you see more than a few spots of blood, you should go to the hospital for treatment as it may be a sign of a problem.

3. Reminder:

For pregnant women, the cervical mucus plug acts as a natural barrier between the developing fetus and bacteria that can cause premature birth and other obstetric complications. Now, a new study suggests that the mucus plug itself may also have antimicrobial properties that can kill bacteria such as Group B Streptococcus and E. coli.
