What does melasma look like and where is it distributed?

Many women have brown spots and think they are chloasma. However, there is no certainty based on this. So what is chloasma? You can learn about it from the symptoms of chloasma:

1. The boundaries are clear and the shape is irregular.

2. Clinically, melasma is divided into three types: ① Central facial type: the most common, with lesions distributed on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip, nose and chin; ② Cheek type: the lesions are mainly located on the cheeks and nose on both sides; ③ Mandibular type: the lesions are mainly located on the mandible, occasionally involving the V-shaped area of the neck.

3. The initial color is like dust, which deepens over time and becomes light gray-brown or dark brown, dull and dry.

4. The size is irregular, the spots have clear edges, smooth surface, no inflammatory reaction, and no pain or itching.

5. Women who frequently use oral contraceptives and pregnant women will develop "pregnancy spots" on their faces, which is also a type of chloasma.

6. Most of them are accompanied by menstrual disorders, premenstrual breast swelling, or chronic diseases.

There are many reasons that can cause chloasma: chloasma is related to sun exposure, and is mainly caused by female endocrine disorders, mental stress, alcoholism, oral contraceptives, liver and kidney dysfunction, gynecological diseases, diabetes, etc., as well as lack of vitamins in the body and stimulation from external chemical drugs. Therefore, removing melasma requires comprehensive and targeted treatment.

If you have spots on your face, you must pay attention to sun protection to prevent the spots from getting worse, and get proper care and treatment early, or go directly to a regular hospital to consult an expert to improve chloasma.
