What is the problem of sudden increase of leucorrhea during pregnancy?

Many women think that there will be no menstruation and leucorrhea during pregnancy, and the vagina can be quiet and dry throughout the pregnancy. Although there is no menstruation during pregnancy, the female vagina still cannot be guaranteed to be dry. Long-term secretions will cause women to be under great pressure every month. It is normal for pregnant women to have leucorrhea, but if the amount of leucorrhea suddenly increases in the second trimester, and the vagina is accompanied by itching and odor, these should be considered as abnormal manifestations.

1. Candida albicans infection : Candida albicans is a type of fungus with extremely strong vitality and prefers warm and humid environments.

Pregnant women have more vaginal secretions and contain more sugar, which makes it easy for Candida albicans to multiply. Therefore, pregnant women are particularly susceptible to Candida albicans infection, and once infected, it is not easy to cure. Candida albicans infection can cause severe itching in the genitals. Patients often suffer from pain, redness and swelling due to scratching, and may even cause discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse. In addition, it will also cause a large amount of cheese-like leucorrhea, making the vagina dry and not conducive to sexual intercourse.

It is currently believed that although Candida albicans infection does not cause much harm to the fetus, the baby's mouth may be infected and develop ulcers during natural delivery, which is generally called "thrush." Therefore, pregnant women with candida infection should use medication to control it to prevent the baby from being infected when passing through the birth canal. However, oral antibiotics may affect the fetus, so vaginal suppositories and ointments are the only treatment options.

2. Vaginal Trichomonas infection : There will be watery leucorrhea with a foul odor, and the genitals will also be itchy or painful. This infection is mostly transmitted through sexual intercourse and is considered a sexually transmitted disease by public health scholars. In other words, it is best if both sexual partners receive treatment at the same time to achieve a complete cure. What is more troublesome is that this infection usually does not cause any uncomfortable symptoms in men, so men are not very motivated to receive treatment. In other words, most men are reluctant to take medication. Under such circumstances, women often commit the same crime over and over again and suffer terribly.

Oral metronidazole is usually used to treat vaginal trichomoniasis, which is quite effective, but it may cause fetal malformations, so it should not be taken during pregnancy. Some doctors believe that it can be taken in the late stages of pregnancy when the fetal organs have matured, while some more conservative doctors say that it is best for couples to receive treatment at the same time after delivery.

3. Chlamydia infection : It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. After infection, there will be pus-like leucorrhea with a bad odor. If a pregnant woman is infected, it is best to receive treatment to prevent the fetus' eyes from being infected and injured when passing through the birth canal. The most effective drugs for treating chlamydia today are tetracycline and erythromycin. The former can affect the teeth and bones of the fetus, which means that erythromycin is a better choice, and the sexual partner must be treated at the same time to recover.

4. Gonorrhea infection : The symptoms are similar to those of chlamydia infection. The fetus may also be infected when passing through the birth canal. Therefore, it is best to receive thorough treatment before delivery. If the sexual partner receives penicillin treatment at the same time, the effect will be better.
