Three treatments for severe cervical erosion

Three treatments for severe cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is a gynecological disease that troubles many women. Although cervical erosion is a relatively common phenomenon, if it is severe cervical erosion, it must be taken seriously. Otherwise, if it is not treated in time and the condition worsens, it will have a great impact on the patient's health. There are three treatments for severe cervical erosion, namely: drug therapy, physical therapy and surgical treatment.

1. Drug treatment

Antibiotics can be applied topically. Traditional Chinese medicine is widely used in the clinical treatment of cervical erosion, and the effect is also good. Some proven prescriptions and formulas are often selected, processed into powders or suppositories, placed on cotton balls, and applied to the eroded surface. Generally, the medicine is applied twice a week. During the treatment, there will be more yellow vaginal discharge, but there should be no odor. Treatment usually starts after the menstruation is over, and the medicine is applied continuously for one month and discontinued during the menstrual period.

The healing process of cervical erosion is generally divided into two forms. One is that the squamous epithelium near the erosion surface grows under the columnar epithelium covering the erosion surface, gradually pushing the columnar epithelium, and finally completely replacing the columnar epithelium to cover the entire erosion surface. This is a form of direct coverage by squamous epithelium; the other form is indirect replacement.

Under normal circumstances, there is a small number of round cells under the columnar epithelium, called reserve cells. These cells have a certain ability to proliferate and differentiate. These reserve cells continue to proliferate and differentiate into squamous epithelial cells, replacing columnar epithelial cells to cover the entire erosion surface, so that the erosion surface is re-covered by squamous epithelium and healed. During the healing process, the newly formed squamous epithelium is often scattered in flakes or runs in cords on the eroded surface. Because this new squamous epithelium grows on tissue with inflammatory changes, it is very easy to fall off. Once stimulated, erosion will reappear. The repeated occurrence of repair and shedding is the reason why erosion is difficult to heal.

2. Physical therapy

Cervical erosion is divided into three degrees: mild, moderate and severe according to the depth of the lesion. If it is mild and superficial erosion, even if the erosion surface is large, if the erosion is shallow and there is not much leucorrhea, it can be temporarily left untreated. If the papillary erosion is moderate or above, cancer prevention examinations and treatment are necessary. As long as you pay attention to not affecting the cervical canal during physical therapy, there is no need to worry too much. This depends on the doctor's correct diagnosis of the disease and his proficiency in the operation. Of course, there is a bit of risk, so women who have not given birth are best treated with medication.

Precautions for physical therapy: Routinely disinfect the vulva, vagina, and cervix. Since there is a large amount of fluid discharge after the operation, care should be taken to keep the vulva clean and dry to prevent infection. Sexual intercourse, bathing and vaginal douching are prohibited until the wound has completely healed, which usually takes 4 to 8 weeks. After treatment, the patients were reviewed once a month to check the wound healing status.

3. Surgical treatment

If the above treatment is ineffective, or there is cervical hypertrophy, or the erosion is deep and extensive, and involves the cervical canal, cervical conization or total hysterectomy may be considered. However, surgical treatment is rarely used nowadays.
