What is labia minora adhesion separation?

Labia minora adhesion separation is a gynecological surgery used to separate the adhesions of the labia minora. Many babies have adhesion of the labia minora after birth, which is congenital. Many parents will choose conservative treatment, but if the adhesions still do not separate after a period of treatment, or other complications occur, then it is necessary to perform labia minora adhesion separation surgery in a timely manner.

What is labia minora adhesion separation?

Labiaplasty is a gynecological procedure performed to separate adhesions of the labia minora. Adhesive vulvitis is a type of vulvovaginitis in young girls. Adhesive vulvitis is commonly seen as adhesion of the labia minora, which is a self-limiting result of chronic vulvitis. Forcefully separating the adhesions of the labia minora will generally cause unnecessary trauma. If the patient has received conservative treatment for a certain period of time and the adhesions have not loosened naturally; or if the adhesions reach the urethral orifice, affecting the direction of the urine stream and causing secondary urinary tract infection and other serious conditions, surgical separation of the adhesions may be chosen.

Anesthesia method and preoperative preparation:

1. Anesthesia method

Topical or local anesthesia.

2. Preoperative Preparation

(1) Ask about the medical history in detail.

(2) Carefully examine the location and extent of adhesion.

(3) Perform urine analysis if necessary.

(4) Prepare hemostatic powder and estrogen ointment.

(5) Other preparations are the same as those for general vulvar surgery.

Indications for labia minora adhesion separation:

If adhesions have not loosened naturally after a certain period of conservative treatment, or if adhesions affect the direction of the urine stream and cause secondary urinary tract infection and other serious conditions, surgical separation can be chosen.

Postoperative care:

1. Keep the perineum clean.

2. After taking a warm water sitz bath every day, apply estrogen ointment topically for 5 to 7 days until the labia minora wound is completely healed.
